it may not be the most complex at places, but the amot brothers kick some serious ass.

point taken, although the question for the purposes of this discussion is really how good the guitarists are not how 'death' the band is, otherwise i wouldnt bother putting in flames up there after soundtrack to your escape, it was barely even metal, so as i said, its about the guitarists and their skill and how much u enjoy em :P

Maybe I'm missing the point here, but if it's not about the best/most skilled/enjoyable death metal duo then why is that the title :P Could I claim Demonaz or Ihsahn as the best then? Just fuckin' with ya  It's just your title could have been a bit more clear...you know to actually fit the bands in the poll

ill change it for ya, it's just that with the amount of sub-genres already existing in metal i dont see much point in creating more by having different sub-genres for melodic death and 'traditional' death. its already gone far enough people! :P

In light of the title change, I vote for Bodom.

I was getting ready to post a smartass "Schuldiner and.." type comment, but was there even a stable second guitarist in Death?

From the poll options I take none, sadly enough.

Yes there was a second guitarist in death.
So my vote goes for
Chuck Shuldiner and Shannon Hamm

Yeah there was only about 450 of them. Im still gonna have to say James Murphy, but Bobby Koelble would have to be up there too because he played on my favorite Death album.

I'm also going to have to say Steer and Amott of Carcass, since "Heartwork" essentially started it all.

No no! There is never a far enough! As long as people keep smushing together different metal elements we shall never be free of the endless sub-genres!!

Hahaha! If that's all you can take then you don't wanna get me started on the subgenres of true black metal! Agreed with Duchess here...
