As a prospective father like many, I have always wondered how I as an individual still maturing in ways, could ever impact in an intellectual capacity, physical capacity, and emotional capacity offspring that I intend to have. The role of the male has changed a bit since the early days of human history, yet the role as bread winner, protector, soldier, thinker, and father haven't changed radically for the male gender. With some elements of radical feminism (not genuine female equality), technological advancements, and the growth of government being challenging factors, how do you think the role of the male will change in the future? As the classroom becomes further digitized, will the core lessons of self reliance, inner fortitude, a respect for nature, and awareness of our surroundings as the stronger sex change?

With the role of government especially for the Modern imperialist US, impart the values of selfless destruction for the name of the mythic empire for our sons? Do you think artificial insemination will gradually make desire for males less and less likely? What are your views as older men on how things have changed since you were in your early twenties, and what are some things you believe will remedy the situation for our gender?

One of our biggest problems might be male insecurity at giving up traditional roles to the women, or taking female roles upon themselves. My girlfriend and I share the cooking and the ironing, for example, but how many men would be comfortable in a family situation where, say, the woman had the high paying job and provided the money for the family to live on?

I don't see the abandoning of traditional contexts for male and female roles and behaviour as detrimental to the male image- on the contrary, I think that the only reason it hasn't happened already is because men are on average not secure enough and fear giving up something that they think defines them.

I've never particularly identified with the traditional male roles and I also never think about gender roles much so I have nothing to add. I tend to assume the role of the male will be different in different families and relationship.

I've noted before that I am not fond of facebook, twitter, youtube personalities, and all the rest's tendency to bring out the exhibitionist, attention-seeking, and downright needy traits within us. Whether men will be man enough in the 21st Century, I don't know yet.

I better kick in my master plan of breeding 7 foot tall hulking lumberjacks to insure our dominance in the future.

But those are the traits that drive people to make art! :-)

This.

I have friends that wouldn't be caught dead doing certain things because "they aren't manly," but I always thought that doing something for yourself was more "manly" than trying to fit into a preconceived notion of manliness. Even if that something is doing yoga or swing dancing or whatever.

Also, I have qualms with the idea that men aren't allowed to have, or rather demonstrate, emotion. Seeing as men are still human, I always found this ridiculous.

Umm, as a prospective father, I just really want to love my kids. I hear friends talk about their dads being distant and my father was never like that. I love children and I want to spoil them with attention. Everyone tells me I'll burn myself out and won't keep up with my own kids like when I'm babysitting others but it's what I aspire to.

As for the role of males, males sound like idiots when they say they are the stronger sex. Let's be honest I could never squeeze a watermelon out from between my legs.

That's what the chorus in a metalcore song is for.
