It's all bollocks. The working class don't have a hold on art of any form any more than the upper class do. Whether either exist in the musical world is an argument of its own.

A hold? Well, of course not, it is never concrete but metal developed out of something and their is a conflict between the artists' roots and the label's direction for the band but the origin, the themes, and the people in art have material, economic roots. On the flipside, the huge label firms don't have control of what is being pumped out by the Britney Spears-es of the world?

i completely disagree with the inital statement. internet and the fact that "rock" instruments are so easily available metal doesn't have a class or a specific stereotype anymore it's something that any individual can enjoy and relate no matter the social class.
for example you have kids who listen to bring me the horizon and megadeth

The accessibility of the music. i.e., people's purchasing power, is not what reflects the social class aspects of the music.
