It's a tailor-made topic for here. If you want to continue the discussion despite your crushing defeat above, then do so there.

Otherwise, Bonded By Blood!

I kind of agree that thrash metal needs some new ideas, even though I don't think that it sucks. I really feel like once you've heard Megadeth, Slayer, Metallica, and maybe Kreator/Sodom, you've pretty much heard it all.

Coroner? Destruction? Overkill? Heathen? Voivod? Mekong Delta? Tankard? Holy Moses? Sepultura? Death Angel? Nuclear Assault? DRI? Suicidal Tendences? Testament? Anthrax?
All are thrash, and all very distinctive from the ones you mentioned.
(and tons of good bands more)

And Forbidden... This week classic review :dio: :dio: :dio: :dio:

Don't even bother, he knows more than you or anybody else for that matter. We should all just bow to him and his mighty (and never wrong) opinion.

I'm not sure when I got this reputation.

I admit that there are definitely thrash bands that have their own sounds. I also admit that I probably haven't heard quite a few of these bands. That being said, is there really that much difference between Destruction and Kreator, or between Overkill and Metallica? I don't think so...but then again, I've never been a huge fan of thrash other than Rust in Peace. But I should probably check out Coroner and Heathen, who I admit I have not heard anything by.

Shit sorry man, that wasn't directed at you. I didn't see that Ganesha quoted you. Sorry. No hard feelings?

And yes there are differences between Destruction and Kreator, rather large difference. Same with Overkill and Metallica.

You all Black metallers can have your progginess, forests, grimmness, vampiric, ambient and all that "artsy" gimmicks that has NOTHING to do with metal, im gonna stick with bands that actually know how to rock.

If it is ok for me to continue this thrash debate I just read through, I think the reason thrash doesn't progress very much is that small changes in the sound of thrash leads to completely new genres. I mean, look at Iced Earth for instant, straight up thrash drumming and some thrash riffing, but that is clear power metal. If you slow down thrash then it becomes groove metal. If you make it progressive, it gets thrown under Progressive metal, not progressive thrash. Make it more melodic and it turns up in power metal, speed metal, or progressive metal. Other small changes make it black metal or death metal.

Now I realize that every statement I made is not completely true all the time, but it does raise a good point in the thrash world..

Bentrom I totally agree.

In it's purest form, Thrash is kinda stuck.

Ironically Thrash did evolve into Death Metal, Crossover and Groove Metal as well as helping influence Black Metal (Venom, Bathory, Sodom, early Kreator etc).

There's also the Neo-thrash stuff ala early The Haunted, Darkane, Witchery etc that combines melodic DM with Thrash.

A big problem is the purists hate post-Thrash/Groove Metal or Neo-Thrash.
