I mostly agree with the the review. I wasn't really impressed by this on my first listen as it came across as just more of the same. But with each listen you notice more subtleties which really add something to the album. It's nothing groundbreaking but being so far in their career I don't really expect them to do anything groundbreaking anymore. If the songwriting remains as solid as it is here then I'll be enjoying this band for years to come. Overall I'd give this a 90.

Which would have been nice since Cosmic Egg is a great little retro-hard rock album.

This album has a very mature sound. The day after I got this I was humming the melodies in my head at work and whistling them in the grocery store. These guys know how to write great songs. Joutsen is an amazing vocalist. He glides through transitions of deep death into beautiful clean melodies . The dynamics and strength of each style never falter. This album shows Amorphis growing in the same directions they always have, but somewhat experimental on a few tracks like Soothsayer with a snakecharming type melody in parts of the song. Mostly this is Skyforger II with some experimental elements, but Skyforger is an incredible album. I don't want Amorphis to drastically change their sound every album. I like the pace they've chosen and the direction. This is a band and a saga that ages like fine wine with an almost perfect track record. I have one favorite band of all time and that is IRON MAIDEN, but this band has been creeping into the runnings with every release. They are obviously influenced by Iron Maiden, but they sound fresh and innovative to me. I have followed their career since the Black Winter Day EP and I will continue to support them as one of the best bands in the world today

One of my favourite bands, but I think this is their weakest release in the Joutsen era... No songs in this album would shine in eclipse, silent waters or skyforger... And there are times when i find this album boring...

It has good songs but i expected it to be far better...

Skyforger is one of my all time favorite albums, I can't wait for this one.

I didn't at first either. The more I listened to it, the more I obsessed. The first four songs are perfect... I had them on repeat for months. Once I let the album run, I started to enjoy it from start to finish.

Amorphis's music is good but it does get a bit boring after a while. The vocalist has a good sense of melody but cannot carry the melody well enough at the end of his melody lines which isn't a positive thing in melodic metal at all (but I could be nit-picking). The melodies in their music are some very memorable melodies but a good example of a poor delivery in the vocal department is the song The Sky is Mine from their Skyforger album (although a great example of memorable melody). Amorphis has some very good tracks and one could say quite a bit of average tracks. A very decent band, nonetheless.

I'm confused, how is Sky Is Mine an example of a poor vocal performance? I personally think Tomi Joutsen's singing has been one of the best parts of the sound ever since they hired him, though the arrangement of the different vocal styles sometimes doesn't work for me.

Don't be confused. I just don't think his vocals sometimes lives up to the melodies of the music. He's much better than the previous vocalist, though.

Well I definitely agree with you there. So do you think there's a vocalist who would fit the music better, and if so who?

You see the emotional level of the current vocalist is definitely there. I just think he can do just a little bit better with some bits and pieces of his vocals; specifically when he is ending his notes. This error that I find with his vocals isn't consistent in all his vocal melodies, so it isn't anything massive. But to answer your question, I wouldn't think of another person to replace him quite frankly as he fits the emotional level of Amorphis very well. As I mentioned before, I believe he can be a little better with his melodies and the way he carries his voice, especially.
