Gallhammer? I didn't even know they had a new one. What did the crazy chicks do wrong?

This would be really cool if he had a better/prettier voice. Like he rasps his way through the whole song when he should be cramming the chorus into my ear like a golden throated god.

I thought what the hell I'll listen to this. Then it started playing and I wanted to turn it off really badly yet my computer froze up. It was so loud due to the Arab Strap song prior to it was so quiet. Bad bad music.

I think it's a great single. I'm really looking forward to the album. I enjoy the direction In Flames has been taking ( Or it's not like it's really anything new, they've been trying new things for just about a decade now ), IE their own, and they're not letting any of the haterade get to them.

Should be a strong album. ASOP was my favorite since Reroute to Remain, which is my favorite In Flames album. Based on this single I know there's going to be plenty of strong melodies, some nice In Flames-y solos, and catchy songs/choruses. Can't wait for the full album and to see the in July.

I'm a bit anxious to see if anything drops off from the lack of Jesper, but this single is great and it seems like they're still running full speed ahead.

You must not ever read any metal forums, including this one.

This is complete bullshit by the way. Maybe if you'd go to a show, talk to the band ( Who will talk with their fans pre and after show... I even bought them a round of beers at a buffalo wild wings in Lawrence, Kansas when they were drinking their before the show since the venue was next door... And they chatted it up with me and other fans for quite awhile... Those money hungry album slaggin' jerks ) , see the fans at the show, watch the band interact with the fans at a show, see their online community, In Flames interacting with that community, ETC, you'd see that you're talking out of your ass.

As for the usual TJR cryers there's plenty of copy cat bands throwing out 1995 melodeath. Have at it.

In Flames doing music for the money is a strong aspect of their music making because a band that was one of the best Melodic Death bands of their age and time has turned into something very commercial sounding and mainstream and thus generic.

Yes, you have talked to them, and yes, they were nice people and they do support their fans, but you have no idea what they are thinking at all times outside of meeting with the fans. I am not trying sound like only my opinion matters, but when a band tastes money under their tongue and gain and new generation of fans that like modern related stuff that is much easier to get into and easier to listen, of course they are going to make music like that.

They have pleased some their earlier fans with their old albums, and now are taking a new direction to please a much wider audience in the new era. Once you taste money under your tongue it's very hard to wash the taste out. In Flames will obviously support a fan club and interact with their fans and what not but that is after all something artists do. Only a minority of artists that doesn't care about what the fans think are in the group of not caring at all.

Imo, the best music is made when artists do music for themselves.

And I agree. But there shall always be the intimate and personal connection that the listener will feel with the music. Drudkh comes to mind.

Drudkh  listening to Blood in our Wells or Autumn Aurora in the forest, watching the starry sky, is almost spiritual.

Indeed. Very much so.

I don't like them that much but I also don't think it's fair to say In Flames are only in it for the money because it's pretty normal for bands to get less aggressive and more catchy as they get older, and it's not like what they're playing now is overtly trendy anymore.

The new material is uncatchy. I've no problems with non-agressive music, but it needs to be very catchy. And this is not.

If every In Flames thread became about Drudkh the world would be a better place.

I agree.

Stuff on Colony of Whoracle was actually more catchy.

I think In Flames are trying to be a European style pop rock band but Anders is too crap a singer to be able to pull it off. In fact his lack of vocal ability is embarassing.

Really if you want to do this sort of thing, get a singer who can sing really well. Write actually catchy music.

A Sense of Purpose was plenty catchy. Alias, Delight and Anger, and March to the shore come to mind. I guess it's just a matter of taste.

I've been to plenty of shows and delt with plenty of bands throughout the years, and In Flames always came off as one of the most genuine, and for how big they are they sure seem to care about their fans. They don't give off a " dick " vibe like some bands can. Yeah, I bet they like the money, but I think they like their music and fans a lot too.

They make the music they want to make. They are in charge of the creative process and record it in their own studio.

Anyway, I have the new album. There's some very strong points but there are a couple songs that drop off in points, and I'm a bit disappointed in that. Probably would rate it an 80/100 personally, which is by no means a bad score. I really enjoy a lot of the songs and sounds, but there are a few that feel slightly forced and that's not usually something that happens on an In Flames album.
