I was a big fan of tarja, but annette and the combination of mature songwriting is going to simply elevate this band. The income is going to be coming in from the masses. I know many of you hate hearing that, but the band is better off with annette. I like both style, but this band is far removed from the cult like status, and Tarjas vox (regardless of how superior it may be) will never be for the masses. I dont even think this question is relevant. After the sales of the last album they would not bring her back. Nightwish seems to be at the top of there game.

I agree that Annette voice is more suited for the mainstream but i disagree that Nightwish is at the top of their game with her at the helm. She's not bad but i doubt that we will ever see another Wishmaster or Oceanborn with her. Now i may be wrong and that remain to be seen though.

And btw Nightwish did reach cult status with Tarja , well at least in Finland :P

I like them both, but Tarja's attitude is too much for the band to handle. She's like one of the big shot wide receivers we have in the NFL here, they may be skilled, but the ruin a locker room.

Thing is, Tuomas had so many feelings for Tarja....Tarja on the other hand, it is somewhat her fought too, and after all what rlly got Tuomas pissed is that she hired her own independent Manager, which soon she married, only revealing after he was the only one who helped her when she was assaulted on stage (the band kept playing)

Tarja's solo career is rlly great stuff, her title will be in the books as long as metal lives, and in people's hearts.

Annete is okay, I don't consider her "Metal" (just for the fact she doesn't put out as much passion in the music as Tarja did, Annete, in my opinion is one big sellout, I regret Tuomas's decision, the whole Dark Passion Play album was meant for Tarja's vocal range, so Tuomas had to rewrite it for Annete) I don't mean to start an Annete vs Tarja arguement here, there is no arguement the proof is found in the live shows.......

I can only think of one song from DPP that could, could sound better if Tarja had sung it and that's Sahara (which is already an awesome song to begin with).

If you look at the band's history it's pretty obvious that as they progressed they used Tarja's operatic vocals less and less and less. This is why they chose Anette, because their newer material didn't require those types of vocals. Now was the decision to cut down on the operatic vocals a good one? To me it didn't matter because I enjoy all of their albums, but that can be debated forever.

Obviously by choosing Anette they can't perform certain songs that were meant to be sung by Tarja, although they do still play songs like Wishmaster which I will admit is a mistake....Anette is not right for that song. But it's not like she's completely incapable of singing the older stuff (once again check out my link earlier where she sings Come Cover Me).

I don't know exactly what makes Anette less "metal." Tarja didn't even know what metal was when they started the band. And how exactly does one conclude that she doesn't "put enough passion" into the music? The rest of the band would tell you Tarja didn't have enough passion and hell that's probably one of the reasons they fired her.

She will just keep pressing and not look back. I wont be supprised though if Annette is everntually replaced with a Tarja clone, because there is just too much she cannot duplicate from their earlier works....

Wasn't Dark Passion Play their biggest album ever? I don't think there is much incentive for them to get back together unless they take a huge dip in popularity in the future and even then they don't seem like the guys who'd do it. They are Finns though and if there is one things Finns love besides alcohol it is being miserable, so on that level a reunion makes sense ;)

Before banning the gay dude, ban Leeyaya.

Anyway, this chick would be a great replacement:

She's already in a band that rips them off! :D

I thought Zad was the defender of minorities. It seems he doesn't like people who love differently

Perhaps the poster was talking about Tarja's burger?

Vocal warnings before banning possible trolls are eyebrow-raising now?

I like some of these bands, but they're nowhere near good enough to be Nightwish replacements yet.

+1. None of the bands you mentioned have a member that is as gifted in musical composition as Tuomas. That is the critical difference methinks.

I can buy your comment, except I personally wouldn't say "nowhere near" - I think Amberian Dawn especially is close. I really like their vocalist.
:)

I really love the quality of her voice too but the musical arrangements in Amberian Dawn become rather repetitious and predictable imo. They seem to stay rigidly within the framework of the double-bass drum powermetal formula which I find dreadfully boring.
