One of the best albums, if not the best, of last year. Enough said. So damn good. Putting a label on it like that seems obnoxious but I guess it works. It's sludgy hardcore with some eclectic influences. Everyone should love this. No joke.

Went on a little hunt to try find some tracks from this album. It is pretty cool, though I found the straight up hardcore vocals are a bit hit and miss to be honest.

Not like Zoroaster if I know what Zoroaster sounds like. I thought Zoroaster was doomy stoner sludge?

Unholy Virgin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hX8OiXGriZU
Spit on the Cross: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEMlEts2hZA

I love the vox but I also dig hardcore.

In a nutshell, they are like a less spastic or artsy Trap Them. They have the intensity minus the primal, visceral misanthropy.

Nice review. Listening to a few songs off this album on youtube now while rereading the review.

I like that the vocals aren't stereotypical modern harcore "tough guy" vocals which are unbearable for me. Instead they follow a more old school crossover/hardcore sound instead, which is cool.

I listened to Unholy Virgin and Black Sin first from the links Trapt dropped. Black Sin was ok, but wasn't very impressed by Unholy Virgin. Then again I'm not a huge sludge fan and that seems to be one of their more sludgy songs.

But then I went on to listen to Heavy Breathing, Children of the Horn and Fallen straight in row and was a bit more impressed by those. In Fallen the vocals get a bit annoying, but the rest of the song is some fun crossover. The title track and Children of the Horn are probably my favourites so far.

I think what you see as "blackened" I see as a doomier (in an evil doomy blues-y kind of way à la Candlemass) influence instead...not much blackened about this stuff at all.

Gonna continue listening to the other songs. So far it seems I'm not huge on the overly sludgy songs, but some of their more upbeat crossover/thrashy songs are cool. Also a cool doomy feel in the song Heavy Breathing. Not an amazing band but some cool riffs and at least two good songs so far.
