Me too. High hopes, but no expectations. I'm surprised the metalcore influences are only mentioned once. I've read other reviews about this which practically called this a metalcore album with melodeath influences. I'll check it out and see for myself.

I would suggest checking it out for yourselves! I've read some reviews about metalcore influences as well and I have no clue as to what they are talking about? I read a couple negative reviews too and felt content to write it off cause I hate MetalCore! Then I heard a few samples and was quite impressed! Really sounds like typical Mercenary to me. Deserves a score in the High 80's IMO!

I like this one a ton better than Architect of Lies as that one was way too soft and keyboard driven IMO.

I am most impressed by Rene's awesome singing. Had no idea a growler could actually sing that well. I wouldn't say he as good as the last guy but I will say there is no drop off in quality at all.. I actually wish there was a tad more clean singing by Rene on this but it's probably close to the ratio clean/death of past albums.

This is similar in style to bands like Shadow Falls/Killswitch Engage. If you like those bands then you most likely will like this

Not too bad but not that impressive either. I'd say 70 is the perfect score for this and that The Hour that remain is still by far their best album.

So now it is stereotypical metalcore? I really need to give this a listen because all people are doing is confusing me about what this sounds like.

melocore?

Definitely some 'core vocals going on. Actually at times they sound a lot like recent In Flames

I think the problem with making a comparison to metalcore here is that people have so many different ideas of what metalcore sounds like. To me it is not the melodeath offshoots like Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, etc. it's the sound of bands like All Shall Perish, Norma Jean, Sworn Enemy, and the like. Metal influenced by hardcore.

That being said, this album is clearly not metalcore IMO, though they occasionally use 'core influences.
