Additions to trapt's nice picks, if you haven't: The Wire, Rome, Deadwood, Rubicon, Mystery Science Theater (late years are funniest), and of course, Seinfeld.

Watching some older episodes of American Dad tonight. Surprisingly witty, much better than MacFarlane's other shows.

Yeah, how could I forget Curb.

For other, slightly more out there comedies, try Mr. Show or Kids in the Hall.

i'll look into The Wire, heard a ton of nice things about it in this forum already. Rome and Deadwood i think i can get on DVD from a friend.

comedy, i know Seinfeld lol, it's fucking awesome. Arrested Development i saw the 1st season a few years ago but never saw what all the fuss was about. Curb was cool but seemed a bit slow-paced. will check out Breaking Bad.

No, it really isn't. Sad how it's reduced three pretty talented comedians and a blonde woman to populist jokes about how terrible the middle east is and how everyone hates Sarah Palin but still would, and oh look, here's a brief interview with a union leader who wants to tax emails. It's a parallel-universe Top Gear, but with appeal for the empty-brained left instead of the empty-brained right. Bollocks to it.

I'm enjoying Merlin. What the hell is everyone's problem with it? It's damn fine. So it's not so true to the story but who cares, it's not like the guys actually lived or something.

Oz is awesome, almost everything by HBO is. Weeds is fun, but only the first three seasons. The fifth sucked really bad...

I agree with Alexander. You should definitely watch Oz. I think it's one of the greatest shows ever created. Weeds on the other hand is just fun, not that great. There are many other shows I would recommend watching before I'd tell you to watch Weeds.

Oz is amazing. It was great because anyone could go at any time. Like when Kenny Wangler came in with the gun and wiped out a handful of people.

I'm watching the second half of the 5th season of the sopranos on demand. It is good, but it wasn't as good as Oz. Those two are in my top 5 shows ever though, so it's close.

The cast diversity makes Oz better as art anyway. I mean that in the sense that I can respect the acting on Oz because there was everything you could imagine, but with the Sopranos, let's face it, they acted like a bunch of mobster stereotypes, even if the performances were great at times.
