Also if it hasn't been mentioned Immolation's Close to a world below is in a league of it's own in terms of sounding like the pure audio manifestation of hell. It makes Portal look like a novelty act, oh wait they already are one!

Totally agree.

No-one does horror like Lovecraft.

I actually find it scary unlike so much of the other stuff out there.

I have yet to power through At the Mountains of Madness. Shit is boring. I think I like Lovecraft's ideas more than I like Lovecraft.

But anyway, 'evil,' lesse:

I think I posted this on a different drunken ramble, but the only bands that actually weird me out, as opposed to just being "brutal" (Lord Gore, for example, have appropriately gory lyrics, but as a band they don't really unnerve me), are Acid Bath, Comus, and Pig Destroyer. Mainly for lyrics/atmosphere. I dunno if I'd call any of those bands "evil-sounding," though.

Okay if we are going to talk about evil, bands like Nokturnal Mortumn and Gorogoth are pretty evil in their lyrics.

Brutal, depends on what you think is more brutal, Black or Death. For death metal, it would have to either be Guttural Secrete or Decrepit Deprevarity. For Black Metal, maybe Marduk, Endstille or Septic Moon

id pick "Azarath" anyday for listening to evil death metal...they are a different breed of satanic DM altogether..just listen to Diabolic Impious Evil and ull see...Inferno, the drummer of Behemoth is one of the founding members too...
