Love Chuck's comment on DsO. Lists needed more Salome, Kylesa and DEP. If Zad quit reviewing I don't know how much longer this site would be worth checking out.

Unfortunately, the genre of absurdly tech death pretty much flat out sucks. There is no variety at all. A one trick pony with a pretty boring trick.

Tech death does suck but it isn't any less varied than any other metal subsubgenre. Augury, Gorguts, Quo Vadis and Cryptopsy all sound different from one another and that's just looking at bands from one province.

I didn't even know Kiuas had a new album. Too bad it got disappointment from Zad, probably won't listen to it.

Note to self: listen to Ghost and Kylesa

+1. Even from a fan of DT and Portnoy (at least from a drumming standpoint - the guy seems like a bit of a douche) this comment was totally out of order, and we can only hope it was some misguided attempt at tongue-in-cheek-ness. Otherwise mostly interesting reading, and I would also like to add to the 'Don't leave, Zad!' sentiment - no offense to the other reviewers (I do read your stuff too!), but I probably wouldn't bother with the site anymore if it were suddenly Goat-less. Anyway, nothing for it but to see what the year will bring - October with its promise of new Opeth can't come soon enough for me! :dio:

Glad to see someone put Beacons in their list. Best of the year, imo. :dio:

I forgot to mention King Diamond's pipes clogging up.

I feel little need to explain myself for my brash attempts at humor. Unfortunately, I'm not very funny so I don't have that to hide behind. If you listen to death metal then I think that it's a little childish to think that something I said was offensive.

Speaking of death it sounds like I'll be reviewing more death metal this year. This was a good year for metal, as I think that any year that has a metal record worth listening to makes it a good year. Hopefully we get ourselves a 1986 soon.

And I gotta agree, Zad is super human. I don't know how he does it. I stopped reading most of his reviews because then it makes me want to rewrite all of mine. (Which might be a good idea anyway.)

Comical or medical depictions of violence is comparable to the loss of a loved one? Fail.

Ever make fun of a dead person?

Not once?

Wow, if there is a heaven I'm sure they have a space just for you.

I loved Dio, loved Steele, and like Nergal (And hope his marrow transplant goes perfectly).

I'm not going to cry because some moron on the internet sarcastically compared them to a drummer leaving a band.

It just wasn't very tasteful is all I'm saying. Get over yourself.

Don't bother trapt. This guy is another one of those reasons an ignore button is needed for the site.

No worries.

My favorite heavy metal stand up on the subject.

Eh don't worry about it. Goat is from England so he knows how to write proper English while us common folk here in the states forget when to add the comma and where to add paragraph breaks

lol @ charles explanation for Immolation taking his 3rd spot. I'd say overall my list would look extremely similar to his but I would probably bump Enslaved up quite a bit. Looking back 2010 was a pretty solid year.

Well, I've learned that if I just say that I have William S. Burroughs and Hunter S. Thompson as influences then people will excuse the fact that my writing is mainly word vomit.

Note: Due to my error I will be removing Subhuman's Profondo Rozzo from my list. I was looking over it today and realized that it is actually a 2009 release that was sent to me in a promo kit with other bands with 2010 releases. I will edit it next time I get a chance.

Also, I will promptly depart this thread as I feel like I am post whoring it.

The lists were pretty accurate. A lot of stuff I still need to listen to though. But overall it was a great year for metal, which it often is. The only thing that kind of bothered me is that the majority haven't listened to the new Agalloch yet/listened to it and thought it sucked/listened to it and were disappointed. I know I've been whining about this since the moment I knew they would release a new album but it truly is a great work of art, it just takes a lot of time to sink in. It definitely is on my list, although not in the top 5 or anything.

And I'll join in with everyone else: for the love of god Zad, do not leave. The other reviewers do excellent jobs, there's no doubt about that, but like it or not, you're some kind of icon around here, keeping this together. I think that the consequences of you leaving metalreviews should not be underestimated.

Sorry to beat the dead horse, but I couldn't help but roll my eyes repeatedly at Tyler's list. Especially the disappointments.
