I prefer vinyl and have been collecting them for.. oh, lets say 3 years or so.. I have about 170 records (including 7''s and 10''). Haven't bought all that many cd's for a long long time, except for classical music - but metal needs to be vinyl!!! it doesn't feel right elsewise :D

but honostly i don't play them too much... wouldn't want them to "decompose" like Zad pointed out. However, it depends on the recordplayer and the needle, and mine is a rather cheap recordplayer.. so.... on the other hand it doesn't matter that much, it's mostly black metal so you can hardly hear the extra layer of noice anyway.

My youngest little sister also collects vinyl, but she on the other hand loves the sound of old decomposes vinyl with all their "click... click" and warm noise.

I have some records that I've listened to 75-100 times and never noticed any deterioration from having played them over and over again, just the normal clicks from dust.

I am pretty much gonna have to go back and change my position, with a qualifier. If everything you have is new that is.

Vinyl sounds pretty good. The Really high F info is not really there and they still do have a million problems digital will never have. But it sounds good to my ears.

I give digital the edge, but that is because I add low harmonics to my audio with DSPs and have some pretty cool tone control DSPs too.

The tracking noise is no where close to what I remember it being.

Again, almost all my records are promos that are in "new" condition and this is the first time this needle and cartridge have been used.

In 5 years after even moderate play I expect top have to replace the needle and cart and replace the vinyl that has been played too much. All in all, it's a better format in reality than it is on paper.

All these claims of being really warm I think are to be unfounded. I guess you'd need a low-output cart for that not an extremely high output on like the shure I have installed. I think people are really talking about tubes and are getting a bit confused.

I'm still taking digital over vinyl, but it is very good. Definitely worth a shot, but the equipment has to be new IMO or never used.

If Adveser can change his opinion of vinyl, then surely all of man can change their opinion of their enemies and call them their brothers. This gives me hope for the future of our species.

IMO vinyl is superior for certain artists, as it provides a link to a time when they were in their prime before I had an opportunity to experience them. Some examples that I have would be Dio - Last in Line, Sabbath - Heaven and Hell, and Aerosmith - Get Your Wings.

There is no question that digital recording is vastly superior to analog, but there is a quality and history to the original Vinyl's that I feel cannot be compensated for on disc.

Plus, album sleeves are amazing and fun to collect!
