Devin Townsend vs Adveser

I listened to Devy all day yesterday and think I will do so again today to make up for all the lack of Devy love in this thread. Seriously though, I think I listen to at least one Devin Townsend/SYL album a week. His music fits any emotion you are experiencing.

As prolific and diverse as Devin's stuff is I really don't think you can make the broad judgments Addy is doing. I don't care if he doesn't like it but to write him off a shit producer based on a tenth of his work is bogus. There's a difference between not liking and critiquing. One can take a single listen while the latter should be done with some knowledge of the subject.

I find it equally hilarious you think production can't be heard despite the sound quality. Everyone knows what artifacts and inaccuracies are in a low quality file and wouldn't make a judgment based on them either. It's irrelevant. That isn't even the case here as clarified later on the thread.

It sounds really patronizing but it's basically how I feel when I run into people who don't like my favourite bands. They've given me a lot and people who don't feel the same way when they listen to them aren't getting that, so I feel sorry for those people. What a bunch of bullshit. The A&R department makes such decisions in about 15 seconds after hearing the first track. When you know what to listen for you don't need all of it.

Stop putting words in my mouth. I said he was "good" but has a lot of issues I probably wouldn't be willing to look past because the songwriting is not good enough to allow the production to carry the album. You guys don't understand the nature of producing. It sinks or swims. "Shit" means the same thing as "99% perfect"

Don't you realize that people here don't give a shit about the details of the production? If we like what we hear is good then it is good to us. The production business and technical details is of no interest to anyone. You might have it as your business but it isn't actually relevant to someone who listens to music for enjoyment, like all the forum dwellers here. You don't hear me talking about the problems in post-financial crisis marketing do you? I'm sure if affected the music business in some way, but who the hell cares?
