I really didn't listen to any music until 7th grade when I was given a CD player for Hanukkah. I was also given the Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack at the time. Somehow I found out about Disturbed, a band I still listen to this day though their last album sucked, Korn, HIM, and other popular metal bands. Now about 7 years later I'm listening to almost all genres of metal.
When listening to any music though, I like to listen to it alone, or at least with the comfort of headphones. This is due to most people I know disliking metal and pretty much anything I listen to, hardcore, electric, post rock, underground rap, progressive rock, etc. Depending on my mood I will listen a different number of bands, songs, or genres. Right now, I'm still searching for new music, not sure where good sources are for non-metal genres though as I don't trust mainstream music sources and nothing is as comprehensive as the metal archives.
