With the rise in popularity of bands such as Altar of Plagues, Wolves in the throne room, and the relatively popular Canadian black metal scene, an influx of bands in the style has brought it to the attention of the ever critical bm scene. What is your opinion of these bands, and do you see them as contributing to the bm scene, or just another sound that will fade away in time. For the purists what is the source of your ire of this particular sound, and what can bands do to avoid the pitfalls of trendiness

Altar of Plagues. Cool. :dio:

Blackened Post-Metal? Post-Black Metal?

I can see the possibilities of what could be done here.

This sound will not fade.

I just don't care for all this hippie ideology in black metal nowadays.

I was about to ask if you meant hippie like Nachtmystium's psychedelia but then I realized you probably meant WITTR because they are kinda uber-hippies.

Yeah, but Nacmystium these days still sucks.

On topic, I dont really care that much anymore. Musical influences can be okay as long as core elements of BM stay firm. And no goddamn hippification, darn it.

I mind it everywhere! But if the music is good enough, I certainly will tolerate it.

I don't really care about the ideology. Can't even tell what they are saying anyway. Wolves In the Throne Room are okay and I enjoy Amesoeurs a lot. I enjoy outside influences on the genre.
