Halford IV anyone?

What do you pick. A better question is which records sucked this year. How is this different than the dissappointments thread? because these sucked despite their expectations.

I don't really buy disappointing albums much these days due to a much reduced CD budget.

However Iron Maiden's Final Frontier was not as good as expected but it is growing on me.

I think it just requires a lot more intensive listening to get the vibe of the songs.

That cover art alone deterred me.

fuck no.

That youtube clip was enough for me. That was what they were marketing as the "hit single" how could the rest be any better? It totally sucked.

The Halford album is actually halfway decent, if anyone wants to actually give it a chance. Granted the single sucks, but I've never based an opinion on an album on a single. Metal is an album genre.

The worst albums of the year for me have been...

Virgin Steele- Black Light Bacchanalia. Someone in the review thread put it just right: It's just so boring. So few riffs, so little aggression, so little anything. Best songs: By the Hammer of Zeus (and the Wrecking Ball of Thor), Bread of Wickedness, Necropolis

Flotsam and Jetsam- The Cold. A few good songs on here, but far too groovy in a really dumb way (YOU'RE NOTHING BUT A HYPOCRITE. CHUG CHUG CHUG. CHUG CHUG CHUG. HYPOCRITE. CHUG CHUG CHUG). Best songs: Hypocrite (despite the dumb chorus), Better off Dead

Kamelot- Poetry for the Poisoned. Once again, it's mainly just uninteresting. I like The Great Pandemonium, Hunter's Season and Once Upon a Time, but nothing else holds my attention, and I dislike the four part concept song thing. Best songs: See above.

Iron Maiden- The Final Frontier. I won't say this sucks, but I have the same problems with it that I had with AMoLaD: It's just too much and doesn't work as an album, even if most of the songs are decent enough. Maiden, I'm sorry, but not every song of yours needs to be 8 minutes +, and not every one of these long songs needs a clean intro. The reason Dance of Death worked so well (the song) was because it was unique on that album; focus on writing one or two awesome Dances of Deaths per album, add some variation, and you'll be fine. Best songs: The Alchemist, The Man Who Would be King, Starblind

Overall, I think it's been an awesome year for metal (or at least the kinds of metal I listen to). My top four albums so far could easily have all been number 1s in any other year.

I don't think I've done any Crappathamonths so far this year. That Ov Hell record was pretty bad... and Avenged Sevenfold deserve a mention, I suppose. Did Bullet For My Valentine or Trivium put an album out?

When even Fridge reckons a BFMV album is shit, you know to stay waaaaaay away.

I think there's a difference between "biggest disappointment of the year" and 'worst record of the year". I'm not saying it's wrong to dislike 'em but those three albums (and especially the first two) are far from a steaming pile of shit.

Technically, the "worst" albums of the year are probably albums that fell waaaaaaaaaaay below the radar and were bought by none but a few unfortunate souls.

And, for the record, I don't see why people are trashing the new Maiden album. I think it's amazing. Although I agree that the band has been overdoing it a little with the "epic songs" lately (that would be my same gripe with Metallica as of late).

Does Lil Wayne's rock album count as an album or is it classified as a paperweight?

The New Atheist as I've heard it really fucking sucks, the production is horribly clipped and sterile and the music fails on it's own, riffs for no particular reason without the cohesion that makes Piece of time and Unquestionable presence great. They've gone trendy with this shitty modern tech garbage and now suck like Necrophagist and The Faceless.
It's just as horrible as Sonic Retribution.
