The thought crossed my mind when I was writing up that review for Tankard really... There's a lot of bands getting older, still producing, but getting older. Some bands are still going strong, while others sound noticeably rusty and impaired..

A list from the top of my head:

Iron Maiden
Metallica
Exodus
Tankard
Destruction
Ozzy Osbourne
Motorhead
AC/DC

How do we think they'll continue? Feel free to mention other bands as well of course.

Add
Judas Priest
Deep Purple
Uriah Heep
Megadeth
Whitesnake
to that list.

Some should retire, others still have things to say.
For example, who the hell still cares for a new Motörhead or Ozzy album? Their glory days are long gone.
On the other hand, Uriah Heep has produced his best album in decades...

Slayer, for the list.

Some I can see going until they drop (Motorhead). Others I think will retire (Iron Maiden) in an album or two's time.

Motorizer was fucking awesome. If they're new one is still quality, I say keep going. Whitesnake wasn't bad live a few summers ago. Halford is getting a little old but he's still a quality show to see.

Metallica might milk one or two more albums out. They're touring has been going well.

Add Dream Theater to the list. OH!

Good to be Bad wasn't too bad in my opinion. A lot of great songs there, even if I don't listen a lot to it anymore.

Metallica should quit making albums and do a couple of tours.

Agreed about Dream Theater, but I doubt that'll happen anytime soon.

It's all about opinion.

In my personal opinion Mastodon had nothing to say after Leviathan.

On the other hand I think Metallica and Megadeth have been improving (e.g. Death Magentic and since The System Has Failed).

So it's all about personal taste and has nothing to do whether the bands are writing good music. "Good" is subjective.

They've just spent a long time on tour (I just saw them in Melbourne).

Death Magnetic was their best album since And Justice For All and I actually find bits of it to be better than AJFA.

Possibly agree with the first clause and utterly disagree with the second.

x2

By the way Queensryche need to hang it up if they aren't going to go back to their progressive metal roots. Most every album post Empire sucks.

Other bands:

Ozzy Osbourne
Skid Row(Without Bach they suck)
Slayer
Poison
Europe
