Totally agree.

As stated I was basing on my experience. And some of those guys were very good peeople though a lot were not. Most of them actually had the mentallity of a 15 year old teenage girl despite being in their 20's and 30's.

And there's a difference between your " I love Metallica and Pantera lulz " metalhead crowd, and ones like us who are very involved with metal.

Actually the least intellligent and also most drug fucked metalheads I've met were usually into Brutal Death Metal, followed by the guys who were inot Metallica/Pantera/Slipknot/Korn.

And like Trapt says I doubt your description fits anyone on this forum.

Agreed. I am 100% sure that I am not the only Metalhead to have gone to University and done well in life. :P

Absolutely great point.

Thrash got oversaturated and stale. In the end it had reached it's commercial pinnacle in 1991 and gave way to Grunge.

At the same time it was not extreme enough anymore to have the same level of underground interest like Black, Death and Grind.

The problem is that, after a while, just about every metal band was trying to copy those two bands in some way. Starting with Machine Head. And then Testament, Slipknot, Lamb Of God, etc.

While true, this is the case with any musical genre.

Death Metal was by 1997 a completely stale genre (I remember lots of editorials and interviews back then lamenting the state of it). Same thing with Black Metal and same thing with Thrash Metal.

The post-2000 period saw all 3 genres reinvigorated, though Thrash seems to be more focused on rehashing old glories (e.g. Evile, Municipal Waste, Gama Bomb and that band that sounds like Kreator circa 1988-89) as opposed to treading new ground.

To me at least groove is an element that can go either way, you have the obvious mention of Pantera, Machine Cock, and Exhorder, than you have bands that utilized it and took it to far more complex means like Cryptopsy and Meshuggah. Thats my two cents at least, and for those arguing about past bands being not as extreme or something, I find Slayer far more extreme than most watered down hacks in brutal death metal. I'd like to think that establishing a benchmark counts for something more than a vintage t shirt, though extremity can be considered in all aspects of music..

I don't think groove ruined anything. I think it modernized hard rock. Allowed hard rock to evolve and get away from that post- Grunge sound. Also by adding groove to death metal and metalcore, if done right and well balanced, can create the perfect modern metal hybrid.
