Well I can see why Ken doesn't review here anymore, lol.

I mean, lets break down power metal or heavy metal

Insert faggoty voice
Upbeat over the top keys from a public television kids show
Sterile and boring straightforward riffing
Meaningless solos every song inserted like a kids toy in a happy meal? You bet.

Every genre has its foundation. :D

After only about 2 months on the staff I got sick of being torn to pieces by Metalcore fans on MR so I honestly am going to stop reviewing Metalcore until I feel I can make a really good case as to why the genre totally sucks. Unearth is a band I never liked, and I saw them live opening for Slayer in 07 and I just wanted it to get the over with so I didn't have to wait any longer for Slayer. For real, Unearth are generic and boring. And a 65/100 is a rather generous score, as in my 2 or 3 Metalcore/Deathcore/Slam reviews I've been extremely harsh.

I'm not really worried about what your case is, everyone has different tastes. Just stick to genres you like or at least somewhat like.

Haha. You must like Unearth, eh? I like a ton of metalcore bands. A 65/100 isn't necessarily a bad score, but Unearth offer nothing in terms of separation from the droves of other metalcore bands out there. And they're not even close to being at the top of that heap.

What metalcore bands do you like? If asked, I say I don't like metalcore, but that's just because everything I've heard is absolute shit...and I've pretty much assumed I just don't like it, but I guess there might be a few good metalcore bands out there.

Man this site is really anti metalcore isn't it? I mean there are some good metalcore bands out there. Bands like Killswitch Engage,As I Lay Dying and Between The Buried And Me are good metalcore bands in themselves.

Exactly. It's nothing earthshattering but they're just really good at what they do. Fear My Thoughts, Heaven Shall Burn, Neaera, Darkest Hour, The Autumn Offering, Machinemade God, God Forbid, All That Remains and Bleeding Through are all really good too. If you can enjoy the sound that is. If not, then I'd just stay away from it.

It's not like Metalcore NEVER gets a good review. I've been positive about Bleeding Through, for example.

you're a special case though, most reviewers like the hack writer for the Whitechapel review are far too inclined to follow the herd.

You're always pretty objective, though. I enjoy your reviews because they just always seem on point and well thought out. Some other reviewers are like " Metalcore/Deathcore? Band fuckin' sucks. "
