This year has been great IMO.

Cathedral - The Guessing Game
Overkill - Ironbound
Heathen - The Evolution Of Chaos
Grand Magus - Hammer Of The North

4 killer albums its pretty good i think, havent heard the new Enforcer wasnt overtly impressed with White Wizzard and there is still a new Maiden album on the way.

Overkill and Heathen are weak when you have a Protest avatar. You didn't know this?

From what I've purchased so far

Immolation - Majesty and Decay
Overkill - Ironbound
Ratt - Infestation
Deftones - Diamond Eyes
Nevermore - The Obsidian Conspiracy

others which were still decent, but not worthy of a best of
Avantasia - The Wicked Symphony
Bison B.C. - Dark Ages

Omission is now a sin? I sincerely doubt he was slamming the new Overkill or Heathen.

Somehow I think Heartseeker considers it a weak year for metal based on the stuff he listens to, you know, Protesting Hero type stuff.

I think you might like landmine marathon. If it doesn't hook you on the first listen I guess I wouldn't worry about it (www.myspace.com/landminemarathon).

You'd probably like the Arsis too.

White Wizzard "Over the Top"

I'm friends with Mike Smith, he just sang for them when they were doing the Download Festival. He's in a local band here in Omaha called Desire to Destroy. Dude has deadly range!

I dunno, I'll have to compile a list. Things to come immediately to mind are Les Discrets and Lantlos.

I like the new Year of No Light, as well. Good stuff.

I haven't heard a whole lot. I've been playing catch up from last year. I've heard Gamma Ray, Overkill, Orphaned Land, Coheed and Cambria... and the only one that stands out is Co and Ca. The others are good, but I'm yet to hear anything memorable this year. I like these threads though, they really help me sort through the crap.

I want to clarify why Overkill doesn't stand out. I bought it through Amazon as a download. Whenever I play it there is a very irritating scratching noise in the background that I originally thought was part of the music. So I went on thinking that for a couple of months and when I contacted Amazon they said I waited too long to get a refund or new download. So, I haven't been able to enjoy the album due to that irritating noise.

Oh, and Blind Guardian will trump all other releases this year.

You should really think about getting a new copy of that Overkill. It's quite good.

Yeah, I'm not much of a thrash fan, so two good/great thrash releases don't really do much for me. But I have checked out Kveterlak and plan on obtaining that. Sounds like some good stuff.

I'll also check out that Landmine Marathon band. I do like Arsis, too, but I haven't liked anything they did after A Diamond for Disease, but I haven't heard the new one...maybe I'll give it a chance.

It is a good year for non-metal though. Foxy Shazam, The National, Yeasayer, The Black Keys, and some other stuff I'm forgetting.

All you meloprogdeath fans should check that In Vain out, for the tenth time. I seem to be the only one who's heard of them.
