Bach's Cello Suite Prelude is such a fun piece to play.
I'm envious. The finger work at 1:20 looked mighty impressive.

Thanks, brah. It's definately a good warm-up piece; it gets your fingers moving.

I just bought a Yamaha DX7 for £30 from a pawn shop today.

Today is a good day.

Gonna really devote some time learning how to sweep pick this summer; I've got about every metal guitar technique down pat except that. I think people that do nothing but sweep all the time are douches, but it'd be nice to know how to do it and use it occasionally.

Yeah i also need to practice that, but man i suck at practicing every time i start i get distracted and then start jamming.

Seriously. Assuming you can "roll" your pinky down to your index finger (like when tapping your fingers on a desk) Get started the other way, ascending down the neck. I am going to assume a proficiant speed is 4x a second, 16 notes a second, which I think is 64th notes.

Practice ascending and descending with the four fingers over and over and over again every time you have a spare minute or when watching TV or whatever.

It took me a solid year and probably a couple hundred hours total to roll my fingers the opposite of the natural direction at four times a second. Until you can bring all four fingers down at almost the exact same time with each slightly behind the last, you are going to have an impossible time sweep picking or it is going to be too slow to work. Sweeping in my experience isn't really about picking deliterately or slowly, but at the same speed you'd hit any chord at. The dragging the pick across the strings way of doing it seems to be the way it is taught, but as soon as your hands have the coordination, I would do it at normal speed, so that it will be flawless and smooth and can be incorporated or added anywhere in a song.

In reality, it hides in all these discussions has been a wonderful source of information.I have been on the market for a guitar for a while now, I need a power that the only time that the practice will be after 9:00 pm, if the helmet is a necessity, which means no noise. Money is a huge problem, as the bourgeois! So I was looking for a SUPER cheap guitar (I know that sound as bad as I at first) for the basics and improve at a later stage (or the Money Matters Change).

Oh wow, just noticed this thread. I play guitar, have been doing it on and off for around 3 years now, never by the book, just playing by ear and learning songs via tabs... the last "song" I learned was probably Boris' "Korosu"

The band I play in sometimes is having a concert on the 28th, I'm pretty stoked. Should be fun!

I asked four of my friends who I think are around my skill level to play music with me, two said they sucked and are embarassed to play with other people and two said they're too busy. Frig.

On a happy note I was playing Hallelujah today while watching tennis and when I finished thought 'holy fuck I'm awesome'.

I got one of these at Christmas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ui7vVHEb ... re=related

Sounds pretty cool but it's of a bugger to get used to initally due to it being diatonic instead of chromatic ha ha.

So after a year and couple months of mainly learning to sing and play acoustic covers of songs, I've gotten slightly bored of that. I've gotten back into playing piano and just now decided to start working on electric guitar skills by trying to write music like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUxtohcAj7Q

I am feeling more inspired by the idea of writing my own music than I have before, which is good, now I just gotta keep at it. I kind of wish I had people to play with because when I come up with the ideas in my head I hear a drummer and a bassist too, but I'm not good enough at guitar to still hear the other stuff when I am playing.

That song is so goddamn amazing...if you could play like Omar, I'd want you in my band. Of course, I have no musical talent whatsoever.

I practiced this song for so long that I couldn't see straight anymore. Even if it's the only song on piano I learn, I'm gonna learn the hell out of it.

Oh, you.

I'll do "Sing Swan Song" next. Also, "21st Century Schizoid Man." Those Kanye West songs rule.

What about Iron Man? Black Sabbath ripped him off so hard on that one.

I wish a whole album of little piano pieces like this existed. So relaxing.
