Hey guys right now I'm facing a conundrum which I'm sure many Wacken goers are also facing. To watch Ihsahn or Slayer, since although I'm much more of an Ihsahn fan, it is Slayer after all. What would you guys suggest?

Ihsahn has more talent in one finger than Slayer ever had, so Ihsahn.

I am getting a Wildhoney vs. Focus vibe from this thread.

It's a pretty practical question. Not comparing what album is better or even what band is better.

Have you seen either one live already? Slayer is awesome live, and I'm sure Ihsahn will put on a good show. I guess I'd just see what kind of mood you are in that day.

Just responding to a typically abrupt response from DW in kind.

I'm sure both would put on fine shows (Ihsahn live with Emperor was very good), and yes, I agree it would come down to your mood.

Slayer, if you haven't seen them yet. They probably won't be around anymore in a few years, so best go see them while you still have the opportunity.

I'm not a big Slayer fan anymore but they may be worth going to see in the Wacken environment. Ihsahn's music would be more suited for a small club than an open air festival.

I'd rather listen to Ihsahn but honestly Slayer puts on a good show. I'm just not a fan of Slayer at all but I've seen them live and they'll deliver if you're a fan in any way.

Going by the scores I gave their last albums, an easy win for Ihsahn.

So, if I've got this right, our tough decisions on what shows to go see can now be resolved by following a simple test.

The "Zad's latest album score" test:

90-100: Zad says, "Go see at any cost."

80-89: Zad says, "If you've got the money and the time you best get there."

60-79: Zad says, "If you happen to like the style of the band and have some time to kill then it could be a fun night out."

40-59: Zad says, "Fred Durst really isn't that bad compared to Jonathon Davis. So, what the hell, go jump da fuck up."

0-39: Zad says, "Korn is coming to town. GTFO."

This (confirmed from my own Wacken experiences). It will also be a better crowd .. if you are into headbanging and that sort of thing.

Only problem with Slayer when I saw them is they played too much newer stuff.

I wouldn't give Limp Bizkit a score as high as 40. Otherwise, not bad.

Come on, you have to admit that Slayer would be a far better show live.

you'd actualy have to go out and see bands perform live to be able to admit anything

scary idea though, I know

I guess. Given what Ishahn plays I don't imagine it'd be all that exciting of a live set.
