Inspired by the purchases thread.

I vote Mike Scalzi, because all his riffs are 10/10 and groove like a motherfucker and all his guitar harmonies make me want to win swordfights and only a couple Slough Feg guitar solos are non-10/10.

I don't believe I am qualified to make this claim, because I don't know all Metal guitarists.

That's true but of the ones you do know who is the best

First you have to quantify the term "best".

Most pleasurable to listen to because of their combination of tone, sense of groove/rhythm, sense of melody, compositional ability, playing variety etc.

though not a "metal" guitarist, strictly speaking, any list of best guitarists is incomplete without the name Eddie Van Halen included... the man is one of, if not THE, most badass axemen out there, hands down.

That would be my list. I would add Dave Mustaine, Robert Vigna, James Hetfield and Jeff Loomis.

See I'm going to pick a favorite instead of who's " best " and then I'll get shit thrown at me. :D

So my favorites would be: Jesper and Bjorn from In Flames, Dave Mustaine, Jori from Mors Principium Est, Tipton/Downing... And I'm like missing too many. I'll add more later.

As if nobody has said Marty Friedman.

You. All. Fail.

Except for V, his list was pretty damn good.

Thank you D, I knew you'd concur.
Damn, I forgot Friedman, but I was never much into Megadeth.
Still, a damn good guitarist.

While I am mentioning the forgotten, John Sykes is pretty fucking good, too.

I'll probably get some static for this but, Vito Bratta has some pretty tasty chops, though whether or not White Lion is a metal band is debatable.
