I found this album quite boring  ....long, dragged out songs, very hard to digest.......just way too slow for my tastes. The only thing that is still good is Ray Adler's voice. The best Fates Warning albums are the first four or five. If you want progressive metal, stick with the likes of Dream Theater and Symphony X. 8)

*yawn* hehe, actually I haven't listened to this yet but I've been bored by everything Fates Of Warning have done for a number of years now, not counting their Priest cover of Saints In Hell. Ever since Fates Warning members were involved in that OSI release, which is quite possibly the most boring piece of legimate music ever sold to the public, I've been even more weary of them.

but i totally disagree...

sure, some old Fates Warning albums are boring as any guitar driven prog metal band can be but it's not the case in that new lp...

many good ideas and even a few good songs on this album... sure it's not album of the year, not even close, nor it is a ground-breaking album for FW but it's a decent prog metal album. much better, in my opinion, than any Dream Theater album... now that's what I call boring !!!

so just give it a try, it might surprise you... :D

 but, of course, if you want VERY GOOD guitar driven prog metal, try the las EXTOL album !!!

as for this one, I'll give it a good 75/100

Disconnected was boring? Give me a break!
If you are looking for war, there are more rewarding targets to attack. E.g those who listen to the primitivism of incapable 'musicians' and vilify groups for being able to play three accurate notes in a row.

Some people find Rush boring too.....I guess it's a matter of taste but lately DT and Symphony X are getting more metal and less progressive with their music. Fates Warning is more of a true progressive metal band. It takes several listens to fully appreciate one of their albums as with quick listens without really allowing yourself to "get into it", it certainly could seem boring on the surface. As far as long songs...there's nothing here over 5 or 6 minutes, not like some of the major epics in their past. To each his own but most of the reviews for this album have been extremely positive and I would have to agree............

I'll stick to Spectre Within and Awaken the Guardian, not only Fates' best two albums, but two of the greatest albums in early prog metal history.

Long Live John Arch!
