They really put out a tight release of mellow-death on this 2010 release. Any thoughts?

A lot more consistent than FTR and heavier than TBW but it still lack something. The songs structure is not diversified enough and the album has been recorded to loud there is some clipping and distortion here and there. A more refined sound (they are getting there) and a more diversified and complex song structure would make this album way better than it turn out to be. I would give it a solid 80/100.

I'm liking it a lot more than For The Revolution which lacked stand-out tracks in its second half. 12 Gauge has plenty of that though, is faster and heavier as well and the solos are better. Lots of headbanging moments on this one.

Sadly, I have the impression that this album gets a bit overlooked.

Probably because Kalmah is kinda old. At least I think so. They do good work but they're not really doing much to really change as a band and their albums kinda tend to be more of the same.

That being said, I do like this release. It's only got a a spin out of me, though.

Yeah you're right, they have been running for quite a long time, but i really feel they are trying to progress and developp there sound on that last album. And about being more of the same, it is also my main complaint as you can read above. They tend to always rely on the same structure and the chords pattern is kinda similar through each song. If only they could vary more but still keep the swamp sound they sure would do some very good shit.

I think what was underreported about this album is how different it is from FTR. It certainly is not as frenetic and deathy of a melodeath album. 12 Gauge is chock full of epic riffs. I love it. I couldn't stop listening to it for like two weeks.

Well it would only be logical since the album has been out for a month or so already. And it's not like it is from an unknow or dark band or anything.

Actually I just checked and it looks like Kyle has dibs on the album, though he hasn't set a target posting date. I look forward to reading it.

Tis a good album, another solid release from these guys. I remember some of my first posts here bacl when were focused on finding CoB style bands, but had hit the wall with them all. If there is one band that has remained true to their sound and developing it well, its Kalmah. While the others went their own way, Kalmah is like a rippening vintage imho. I've gotten quite a few casual and more extreme metalhead friends into thier two newest albums as well. Some great keys and solos to be found on this cd.

I really like this one, as I like every single one of their albums. But I have to admit that I don't enjoy it as much as the last one. IMO For the Revolution is slightly better.

Honestly, I only heard their debut years ago and took them for COB clones. But, meanwhile... This happened. I cannot stop listening to this for three days straight. The riffs, the melody... Have they replaced every member from 2000 ? Vocals sound nothing like before.
