Seriously though, I can't think of much here... I tend to either like a band's sound or not like it.

Probably a load of pop or indie rock acts have songs that have really caught me nicely.

Yeah, same here.

But isn't that most bands? Are there any bands that you think have 100% great songs? I sure don't know any. Most good albums have a few standout tracks and the rest is hit and miss.

This thread is confusing me. There is a big difference between saying that you like one song total from a band, and saying that you like a few on each album.

Definitely not most bands, for me. When I think of most of my favourite bands or bands that I just generally like, the reason I like them or consider them a favourite is because 90-100% of the songs are what I consider to be "great." The same goes for favourite albums or albums that I like despite maybe not liking the band's entire discography. It's typically both quantity and quality.

Anyways, I guess I must have interpreted this thread differently. I also thought this was a thread for bands that you like one or two, maybe three songs of. I don't hold any disrespect for most of the bands I mentioned in my list, and I don't think any of them "suck," actually. I just don't enjoy (with the one exception of Operation Winter Mist) the rest of their material. With Helloween and Blind Guardian, f.ex., it has more to do with the fact that I'm not a power metal fan than with me thinking they suck and are talentless fools or something.

You should check out pre-RiB Slayer. It will at least add Chemical Warfare to the list above.

I can think of only one band.

Anthrax - This Is Not An Exit and Safe Home. I love their riffs, but apart from those two the rest of their songs are pretty average to me.

Some serious bullshit up in here.

But wait- I thought this site had an agenda to further old metal at the expense of new metal :omfg:

Now I'm confused

Well, that's definitely *my* agenda. Loves me the Priest.

Oh wait....I had all young bands on my top 5 thrash of 2009 list. Shit.

Now I dunno what the hell I think. Damn you adveser and satan's anus!

Maybe I should. I only own RiB and Seasons in the Abyss, but I'm not too impressed with what I've heard from albums post Seasons in the Abyss.

In general I'm not too impressed with american thrash metal at all..
German thrash all the way for me.. Maybe I've just been raised the wrong way.

oh man German thrash is by far the best, but pre-RiB Slayer is awesome, you really need to hear it. It's muh darker and faster.

But at the end of the day..

German/Euro thrash > North American thrash

Shit dude, satan knows i love Priest but man what's with the Maiden hate?, i know its a bit cliché to say this but for me they're the best band in the world, the only way i could compare them to Priest or Sabbath without my head exploding would be something like this:

Maiden = Priest = Sabbath

I don't hate Maiden, I love Maiden. Easily one of my favourite bands, but I love Judas Priest that much more.

Does one has to be better than the other one?, North American Thrash has Overkill and Heathen, it doesnt get much better than that.

Hahaha Kreator is fifty times faster then both of those bands.
The only American bands that even come close to Kreator, are Demolition Hammer, Morbid Saint, and Dark Angel.

Ok, first of all, Steve just mentioned Demolition Hammer as one of the top American thrash bands, which is doing my head in.

Not because he's wrong, he's absolutely fucking right...and I was getting so used to him talking shit.

Secondly, I have to agree with Voice on this one. German thrash is phenomenal, but for every German thrasher I love, there's an American to rival.

Destruction, Sodom, Kreator, Holy Moses, Mekong Delta....

Demolition Hammer, Exhorder, Vio-Lence, Wargasm, Forbidden....

The lists could go on forever. Especially if you start counting Canadian to "American" and European to "German"...

Oh. Is that the song with the sounds of a monkey raping a pig in the nostrils at the beginning?

Not just the beginning.

I think that's the whole thing.
