After listening to "Destroy the Opposition today" I'm pretty firmly ingrained in thinking, they are at least partially responsible for the subgenre. The technical aspect and song structure is undeniably death metal, yet the grooves the band employs is taken from NYHC at least in my opinion. What are your thoughts if anything on considering them deathcore? Do you even care lol? Or do what can you come up with regarding their overall sound?
I'm anxious to hear everyone's thoughts.

They'd definitely be considered a big influence on the genre of course but I wouldn't call them straight deathcore.

I'd say this is fairly correct. I was listening to some Rose Funeral this morning, and yeah, there's definitely shades of Fetus in there, even though DF itself is really, really far away from being deathcore. They've certainly been an influence, but just how big of an influence they've been is debatable.

the reason it's my belief that they can be called deathcore, is the sheer amount of hardcore influence in them. Most people consider Suffocation an equally large influence on the genre, but Dying Fetus have a considerable more amount of NYHC in their sound. Couple that with Gallagher's affinity for rap and hardcore over metal, and well I think you have at least somewhat of a senior deathcore act.

Jeez, what a sad day for extreme metal, that all that can be discussed is this and those overrated pricks in KoK. There's a new Malevolent Creation album coming, after all!

You make a very good point. There's hardcore elements all over the place in DF.

And I love how with the new Suffocation album, some fans are claiming they went deathcore. Lol wut

I'm anxious to hear it as always, I'm not meaning to shake any foundations in asking this question. Just wanted some forum input I've been reviewing a lot of the band's material. So i just figured a thread would help along in the process.

Heh, it's cool. You're right that DF seem more 'core than Suffo - always preferred the latter, myself.

I don't really see how they really fall into any 'core element, even today. They've done a pretty solid job of sticking to their guns, yet mixing it up a little bit.

It's my opinion that you really have to listen to it, the spastic technical aspect of the music is inherently death metal. Yet when you get into the palm-muted grooves, I have a hard time accepting that it's not from the core aspect. It really isn't important at all just wanted to start a conversation. Or maybe convince someone to review "Destroy the Opposition".

I would say that they influenced the emergence of Deathcore (which is a huge mistake) but by no means are they anything but Tech-Death.

I would agree with this.

And since I like Dying Fetus, they couldn't possibly have any 'core' in them, it is a proven science fact!

Yea me too, the two latest albums are def tech death, the earlier ones are def not.
The most appropriate tag is Dead Machine's
"Hardcore-Tinged Brutal Death Metal"

Groovy Slamming Tech Death is what I'd toss around for the generalization of their sound but they are quite capable of bouncing around. I love the Slam, so many bands that do it better in my opinion and one has to be a fan to notice the nuances between hardcore stomps and chugs versus the groovy riffage of the mighty slam. Some bands do the brutal thing, others really sloppy chugging madness, others still enjoy throwing in a few samples like many other death bands and some are really damn good slam with a flair of technicality.

I do enjoy DF's newest creation a bit but other bands hold me more when I want the slam. Some favs, though they vary according to foundation and flavor.

Abominable Putridity :dio: (They're in the studio finally!!!!)
Septycal Gorge :dio:
Wormed
Despondency :dio:
Vulvectomy :dio:
Cenotaph
Egemony :dio:
Devourment
Pus Vomit
Awaiting the Autopsy
Ingested
Pathology
Human Rejection
Amputated Genitals
Decrepidemic
Embryonic Depravity :dio:
Supperation
Insidious Decrepency
Gorepoflesh
Repulsive Dissection
Cenotaph
Perverse Dependence

Listen to Guttural Secrete, they aren't slam, but they are far more brutal than Abominable Stupidity. Pathology and Insidious Decrepancy, and Suppuration are pretty sick as well.
