I think it's kinda an interesting question, really, if a bit of a wierd one. Basically, does the fact that you listen to music that glories in a load of weird stuff make you a weird dude?

I would say no. IMO metal fans tend to be perfectly reasonable people who just have a perfectly healthy interest in dark subject material.

That is unless we are talking about power metal, in which case switch that last bit for an unhealthy interest in flowers and fairies.

I (sort of) agree with this. I don't think it's nearly as negative as the OP makes it out to be. Most metal seems to be about FUCKING RIFFS and the lyrics about murder/Satanism/necrophilia are more of an afterthought. There are a couple of intensely angry and/or depressing metal bands but I don't think they're more common than in other genres. Sometimes I wonder why I listen to and enjoy them while other people feel like shit after getting into two or three Neurosis songs. I'm a happier than normal person I think because listening to cathartic music makes the negative emotions go byebye really quickly.

Beyond that, assuming that listening to a certain type of music implies a certain world outlook or existential stance is 13-year old girl bollocks.

I think you're way over-intellectualizing metal and music in general.

As far as lyrics go, I don't really like gore/retarded/satanic lyrics.

I listen to metal because I like how it sounds. People that watch horror movies don't have to be psychos or anything just because of that...lol, same thing with metal music.
