"Man is something that should be overcome"
Wrote Friedrich Nietzsche once long ago well unaware of the rapid advancement of technology. Though I write this very much as merely my thoughts I'm hoping you all will benefit me with your knowledge as well. When you think of being human, do you imagine yourself in some distant time as being immortal? In reading a little about transhumanism, I'm kind of in an odd position whether to support or completely reject the notion of being better then my organic self.

When we eliminate most of the natural processes with possible available technologies what is left? Is it possible to cheat death with medicine? Is it possible to become more sentient beyond the realms of our own senses? Is it proper to speak of these theoretical "post humans" with regard to the word human? Must we as a species seek to better ourselves with technology?

Ugh so many questions..... :lame:

I don't think of myself as immortal. It might be possible to cheat death with medicine but we're still a long way off from that since I'd imagine our bodies would come up with some serious ways of falling apart as we get past 100

My great grandma is 107 now...

I mean, being that old, having experienced so damn much, it must be pretty incredible, although pretty damn tiring as well.

Look at mathematics, one divided by zero is an impossible equation.

Matter can not be created nor destroyed. Your existence proves the possibilities have been achieved.

I think you'll find that when you die, you get to wake up an infant and start over again, forever.

If you understood the movie, the fountain it will make perfect sense. You are seeing a guy make the same fuckup over and over and wasting 500 years trying to become immortal when he already was to begin with... his wife was trying to tell him the whole time that he couldn't die and that they would be together forever, but he didn't understand.

I actually know I just used the quote simply because it came to mind. Good observation though

I sort of with you until you started blathering about reincarnation and how a Hollywood movie contains the secrets of existence.

There is no reincarnation. Just time repeating itself forever. I don't see how someone making a movie about the concept nullifies it.

What's the difference between that (rebirth etc) and reincarnation? And The Fountain was an awful film.

So "to made flesh again" is not equal to dying and waking up in another body? The rest of the stuff in your initial post I'm calling pseudo intellectual garbage.

No, you are missing the point, you wake up in your own body. The components and circumstances have reassembled themselves.

If I give you a jar of half red and half white gumballs and asked you to draw all red ones, in an infinite timespan, you will eventually do so, times theta (near infinity, which is strictly speaking, infinity)

Why would I believe this?

And what's the relevance of given enough time anything could happen? Read some David Hume. Just because something could happen doesn't mean it will. There is no thick causal connection which equals a necessity in probable situations. Probability =/= necessity.

In probability, mathematically if you flip a coin 100x the probability always starts out 50/50 but the more tosses that occur the probability that you'll have all heads declines below 50%. [/i]

imo The Fountain was awesome.

Adverser seems to be multiplying sentences by variables so I'm not even going to try.

The Fountain is amazing and beautiful and Zad is a filthy philistine.

That's all I have to say about that.

I'm going to call bullshit on that. Just because something could appear like that doesn't mean it will. That's a giant fallacy.

The seemingly inexhaustible progress of technology, science and medicine leads me to believe in a very vast realm of possibilities involving human immortality.
