Well, Carcass > Arsis, for a start.

Not to turn this into Europe vs America or anything.

I disagree, good sir.

I don't want to turn this into Europe vs. America either, I was just pointing out the fact that I seem to prefer bands from North America. Some of my favorite stuff is from European countries, but on the whole, American bands seem to do more for me.

I know it's all IMHO, but Arsis sound like a second-rate Carcass knock-off, generally - I appreciate they have the skilz and all, but how anyone can prefer that vid posted earlier to this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_xs1OHafBI

is beyond me in my opinion of what I prefer and stuff.

I can see how they'd prefer that We Are Nightmare song with the animated vid. But! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7oGGud2Jk4 beats all.

imo Arsis do basically everything better than Carcass and so do Exhumed so GO USA, even though Heartwork is a very good album. I always thought the riffs on Necroticism and earlier sounded kinda sleepy. They don't push my attention from part to part in the song and I don't think I've ever really listened to anything after track 3 on that album.

I don't remember anyone in this thread saying that Arsis were the second coming

Maybe they're just easily impressed, heh. This place does tend to fixate on a few bands and praise them to the skies, rather than spreading the love.

We're all so easily impressed that the only people who know what the fuck we're talking about when it comes to music is the snobs on this board. lol.

Carcass sounds nothing like Arsis, although I haven't heard the new material by Arsis so I'm not getting the point.

Necroticism and Heartwork are absolute classics.
A Celebration of guilt is a great album after that they went to shit.

What you have to remember is that Arsis has a bit of technical adeptness but also some melody as welll! Which is something absolutely nobody else does.

I don't really see the Carcass comparison, myself. I mean... They both kinda do the melodic death metal thing, but outside of that I don't really see it. Maybe in some aspects of We Are The Nightmare compared to the later work of Carcass? But even then I'd say the similarities are few.

But it's all melodic death metal anyway. At least later Carcass, of course.

I haven't heard any other melodeath bands that are as fast and fiddly as Arsis while still being really catchy. En guarde!

Not rly seeing the Carcass comparison either tbh

Yeah, as someone who generally doesn't care that much about death metal but has listened to quite a bit of it (does that make me a qualified 3rd party?), I can say that IMO Arsis are definitely one of the more interesting bands in the genre. Probably one of the best bands, really.

yeah, no. you like protest the hero.

the only good album arsis made was a celebration of guilt. United in Regret? Shit. We Are THe Nightmare? Boring. This one probably a combination of shit and boring. I'd rather listen Hypocrisy any day over Arsis, Hypocrisy is a band that doesn't get close to the credit they deserve yet we have all these hype bands like Arsis that make one good album and then have little shit head metal crokes screaming their praise. Oh and for the record since we brought the legendary Carcass into this Heartwork and Necroticism are both twice as good as A diamond for disease (what I see most people calling arsis' best).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0C5gUQhvV0 main riff is the best riff ever

Oh and I get the Carcass comparison now, they both have guitars in the band!

Eh, only iffy Arsis is We Are the Nightmare because the drummer is too busy and makes the songs a mess. Everything else they've done is awesome. Never understood the "A Celebration of Guilt is their only good one" opinion because the other stuff they've done isn't wildly different.

Hypocrisy is really boring tbh. Fun until the five minutes of "wow this album is loud" wears off. and don't really see how they're much like Arsis either.

United In Regret has really grown on me. Less Melodic, more Tech, but it still has those awesome epic moments that A Celebration Of Guilt had, even if to a lesser extent. Still, UiR makes me feel excited and awestruck.

If you don't like A Diamond For Disease, you have a problem with your brain.

I should probably get We Are The Nightmare, just for completion's sake. I'll probably buy it alongside the new one.

We Are the Nightmare has some really cool stuff but idk, the other drummer is all over the place and super triggered sounding so they sound like tech death band #1,562 rather than awesome and catchy as well as complex.

Most of the complaints I've heard have been about the drummer, and having heard a couple songs from WAtN, I can kinda see why. It's not like he's a bad drummer, but he's just too all over the place.

Hypocrisy are pretty legendary in the genre, I don't know where you're getting that. Also to talk of them like no one knows who they are is kinda silly. I've personally been jamming to Hypocrisy for almost 8 years now.

I'd say Hypocrisy also has a far larger fanbase than Arsis.

I like all of Arsis's albums. Probably A Celebration of Guilt and We Are The Nightmare would be my favorites. I think they're a solid band and that they deserve the LITTLE attention that they get. lol.
