ayreon, the Human Equation, its art

Green Carnation light of day day of darkness, 1 singel opus that last 1 hour, it will spell bind you ;)

Arena, Imortal, its pure goodness for your soul. some say it reminds them of ealy genesis(in the olden days where they made prog)

Lake of tears, have some great songs tjek out Forever Autumn

Mostly Autumn, The Spirit of Autumn past, it does sound a little like Pink Floyd.

Pendragon, also a fine band, ther newest album Pure will hit your G spot i am sure.

I could add a ton more but this should keep you mellow for some time.

As awesome as Lake of Tears are, I dunno if I'd go as far as calling them prog :S.

Yes and 70's Rush is must-haves. I recommend Close to the Edge by Yes and 2112 or Hemispheres by Rush. Then you could check out Early Dark Quarterer which is fantastic as well as King Crimson. Also, try and look up the Italian Focus, though they may be hard to find.

This is the best advice you could possibly have received. Also, though, I would add Camel and Emerson Lake and Palmer.

Dark Suns for the win!

Karmakanic and Beardfish haven't been mentioned right? Give them a go too.

Yes, good suggestions, may i also add Moon Safari, The Flower Kings, Ritual, A.C.T. Anglagard, Black Bonzo, and Kaipa as well?

On the other hand if your looking for heavier prog

there's Evergrey, Kamelot, Angra and Communic that are prog on all different levels that might pique your interest,

Those three are not prog. Lots of other bands listed here that aren't prog, too.

Some great ones listed, though. Fucking impressed someone named Beardfish and Black Bonzo!

:dio:

I got a playlist set up at home with a ton of prog bands listed. I'll go through them tonight and list them.

If I remember...

ELP ('xpet for BSS) sucks.
Better go with Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, Van der Graaf Generator, Gentle Giant, Henry Cow, Hatfield and the North, Soft Machine, etc.

ELP does not suck. You are correct, though, that some other bands do also exist.

Well, I looked through my collection, and found some rather odd and unknown stuff.

Jupiter Society:
Their Bimarck Explorer record was worth buying. Not progressive rock at it's very best.. But it sure is above average.

Seventh Wonder:
One of my favorite albums of 2008.

Anubis Gate:
newest album is all I've heard, and it's more than decent.

Uriah Heep:
Grew up with these, and they were one of my favorites. Every minute you use listening to these guys feels worth it.

Katatonia:
what can I say? It's varied, beautiful and Heavy. me likes!

Cynic:
One of the best prog bands out there. Either you dig it or don't though. Probably because of the "robot-like" voice.

Draconian:
Maybe too heavy for your taste, but a decent band with female vocals.

Dawn of Destiny:
Into more speed? This is a ok band with a great record called Rebellion in Heaven.

Flowing Tears:
Great band, decent in every way. Specially their newsest record.

Jon Oliva's Pain:
Had to be mentioned by someone...

Fates Warning:
Every albums is a classic.

Aeon Spoke is pretty much like Porcupine I guess..so check them out!

No one mentioned Nevermore. at least it's mentioned now.

And if you haven't checked out Ayreon... Check them out! Best progressive band out there. Arjen Lucassen is a musical genius and has many projects everyone should check out.

Excuse my long post.

Not prog.

Props for mentioning Aeon Spoke, though.

Traced In Air, album of the decade (imo, waiting for 2010 albums to see if someone can take this place), has no robot-like voice, and is a fucking masterpiece.
And somebody that doesn't like album of last decade (1991-2000), Focus, because the robot-like voices, is an asshole.

Anubis Gate and Jon Oliva's pain is defiantly prog... But I agree that the rest are not. But it still has a tiny progressive touch and would be liked by progressive music lovers.

Nevermore on the other hand has albums like The Obsidian Conspiracy, which I would refer to as Progressive metal.

And yes ganeshaRules, I agree with you. Traced in Air is for also for me the album of the decade!

None of those bands are progressive. No way.

What's "defiant prog"? Sounds like something Henry Rollins would do if he started listening to Floyd.

Meh ^^ Everything I say here ends up being spoken negative of. So I'll just shut up. And ofc defiantly was a spelling mistake. I know you guys probably know a lot more about progressive music than me, as I'm a 17 year old kiddo from the small non-progressive country Norway. I just wanted to recommend some bands that I really like, and I still think you should check it out.

And Satan's Anus. I'd really like your list of progressive bands. :)

Man, don't stop talking just because some asshole on an internet forum made fun of you for a spelling mistake. Norway rules - the new Ihsahn is great!
