I just heard this band but they seem to be a famous one. Anyone here know about them? Are they any good? I liked some of Killswitch Engage and Shadows Fall stuff that I tried and I heard this band was similar.

I don't understand the hype over As I Lay Dying. It's whiny metalcore of the "I'm sad 'cause my girlfriend left me!" variety.

I prefer Death/Grind of the "I am sad cause i smashed my girlfriend's head with a hammer" variety.

As I Lay Dying is the sort of stuff that gives metalcore a worse name than it already has.

As I Lay Dying is extremely good. Strange, of course, but really really good and interesting read.


As for Faulkner's title getting stolen by a metalcore band... that's a shame. They really should have left it alone... for a doom-metal band to grab

This is not bad at all. Reminds me of In Flames' older stuff sometimes. But surely their name sucks.

Faulkner is a genius. It saddens me greatly that such a crap-ass band adopted the title for their name.

I never listened to that band and I have no intention to, but I'd bet that 90% of their popularity comes from the name itself. It's a name that atracts and makes you curious... too bad a malcore band tries to capitalize not on their music, but on another man's genius. Because I'm pretty sure that was their intention when they chose their name.

That's pretty much the crux of the matter. If you have a tolerance for hardcore, you might like them; I have no such tolerance. If you're a purist like me, you probably won't like them.

Emokid, you're confused. You need to listen to a band in order to criticize their music, which I didn't. You don't need to listen to a band to criticize their name choice, especially when that choice is the stealing of great writer's novel title. Since most people are unaware of this, I thought about pointing it out. Are you quite clear now?

Dissing a band just because of their name is idiotic and dissing a band for their genre is also idiotic. And about the name stealing shit do you idiots anybody know about this band called PARADISE LOST???

Actually, I have heard As I Lay Dying's music. To reiterate, it's whiney metalcore and I don't like it. As I very much like the Faulkner novel, I feel a bit miffed that such a great name has been attached to such cruddy music. Especially as the main issue I have with AILD is their lyrics, and Faulker did such amazing things with the English language.
As for Paradise Lost, I don't dislike their music like I do AILD; if I did, I'd feel the same way (moreso, as I adore Milton).

Some people must be really glad Internet was invented. Now they can tell others who disagree with them to "shut the fuck up", or call them "idiots", from a safe distance. The bravehearts of 21st century.
