Yeah, so judging my knowledge of metal to be limited without actually knowing me well is not arrogant? To be honest: I'll gladly remain ignorant of your preferred fairy metal bands, even if by your exacting standards my opinion would then be null and void. You can go and post more of your long long lists of boring, mediocre albums to try and get your elitism across, evoking the image of prepubescent boys measuring their cocks, but I tried to post in this topic along the lines of what it was intended for in the first place; ie. not my ego.

And calling Mastodon crappy but simultaneously nominating all that power metal is the stupidest thing I've read on the boards this year, and there was Dead Machine to contend with. Bravo. Time for a slow clap.

Seconding Damnation by Opeth, though.

Then again, you don't appear to have much of a head anyway.

Of course it is, call it fight fire with fire if you will.

Ok, do as you will.

Im elitist? i posted fucking Edguy on my list, three times i believe, clearly not the cultest band around.

So i guess mocking other people choices and caliing their picks mediocre was the intended purpose of this thread, if so then why are you arguing with me? i just did the same thing to you.

I'd say Crack The Skye is an album of the decade, for me, at least.

I'd also have to add Burst's Lazarus Bird album. I dunno if anyone will agree with me there, but I would say it's one of the best of the decade.

Also, Katatonia's The Great Cold Distance.

Yeah, I think Damnation is quite an enjoyable album, but metal album of the decade?

Also, Mastodon is the definition of overrated.

Oh, and this just in: If you like Power Metal, then you might actually put power metal on a "best of" list. Mind blowing, I know.

I don't get all the fuss about Mastodon.
They're an alright band but nothing special IMO.
I own "Crack the Sky" and it would never cross my mind to include it in my top five of the year nor would it be include in a top ten, so saying it's album of the decade is pure crazy talk.

Opeth - Blackwater Park

Would be my album of the decade.

Followed by:

Cynic - Traced In Air
Mastodon - Crack The Skye
Arsis - A Celebration of Guilt
Mercenary - The Hours That Remain

Yusss, high five! And by a long way, in my opinion.

It is good indeed but, seriously I'm curious what you guys find in that album that I don't.

IMO it's the flow of it. It drifts between these really subtle melodies, and massive leaps in dynamics, whilst sounding completely spontaneous... the way some classical orchestral piece would, rather than a metal band. The textures they use are so varied yet it all just flows naturally together. I just don't think there are any other bands in metal capable of playing the way Cynic does.

Nominating an acoustic album was my way of saying what a dire state the metal genre is in nowadays, I guess. But cheers for nominating the likes of Chimera and Reinkaos

Also, Aborym - Fire Walk With Us.

Hey, don't say that, that's elitist. Everyone has the right to an opinion, even if they nominate Edguy and other stale power metal acts.

...not.

Fuckenell, get your head out. "Right to an opinion" my arse......... maybe we should just let you choose everything from now on.

Another good one, although it pisses me off that it is all one track, despite not needing to be.

Hellfire Club is an outstanding album. If you don't like power metal, that's fine, but other people do. I'm not really sure what's so hard to understand about that. I think Mastodon is horribly overrated, and I'm sure others agree with me, but for some reason you are the only one being a complete jackass.

Not my fault if I try to stick to the topic and proceed to be told I know little of metal.
