I listened to a song from None So Vile again and all I heard was gruhgruh gruh gruh gruuuuuuuuh and a short higher pitched scream. I heard Shadows of the Sun a bunch of times trying to like it but it ended up being pretty dull :(

You listened to one NSV song and formed your entire opinion from that. CONGRATULAAATIONS N00BLEZ. As for SOTS's 'dullness', all that means is that you're not down with ambient music of that sort, it doesn't mean that Garm's shite.

And the guy from JFAC is far, far below Lord W in skill. Jeez, listen to more Death Metal willya.

Hahaha

I listened to the entire song. JFAC are fuckin' boring. So are their vocals. You complain about Lord Worm making only one sound? Puh-lease. I love you, man, but you are so totally fucking wrong about this.

Actually, the only DM vocalist I can think of that maybe tops Lord Worm is Luc Lemay from Gorguts, because he manages to somehow sound even more insane, even if he's not as varied.

I like dude from Arsis and !T.O.O.H! (if he counts as a death vocalist) because he has memorable vocal parts and puts like melodies into his screams. Guy from Augury does it pretty rarely but whenever he does it's really great too.

Yeah, I watched some interview with James Malone and he said that a lot of really technical bands seem to overlook melodic or vocal hooks, and that it's something he actively seeks to put in his songs or something like that. He's not my favorite vocalist, but he is pretty awesome.

To finally name one really overrated vocalist: James Hetfield.

Lord Worm is an impressive vocalist, but in terms of consistency he's got nothing on say Frank Mullen. I don't know if any of you guys noticed but the new Job for a cowboy's album has the guys vocals just as processed as Angela Gossow's.

How can it be overrated if everybody criticizes as they rightly should?

The dude from Alestorm. YARHAR I CAN GET DRUNK AND TALK LIKE A PIRATE! *hic* One of the better gimmick bands out there for sure, but they are doomed to fail.

Also, Tobias Sammet. His voice was never THAT great, especially on the most recent Edguy / Avantasia albums. When he and Michael Kiske swapped choruses on Shelter From The Rain... I about cringed.

Frank Mullen has been pretty meh for me ever since Effigy of the Forgotten. On that album he was FANTASTIC, but since then, he's just been okay.

agreed on all of those as well.

king diamond makes mercyful fate worse if you ask me, sometimes his vocals are cool, but they would sound better with a more aggressive vocalist, sometimes king diamond just sounds wack.

Considering Alestorm get nothing but constant shit from people I can't really see how he's overrated.

Im a bit late on this one, but King Diamond is overrated? Fuck that. I understand if you don't like his vocals, but to say that he's overrated is just looney. The man is quite possibly the most unique vocalist in heavy metal, plus he fronted one of the greatest heavy metal bands ever, and then did some outstanding solo work. Hardly overrated. The man is a satanic genius. He took the Uriah Heep vocals from that one song on the first album, and totally ran with it. Kudos to you Kim Bendix!!

Halford and Dickinson are pretty overrated. SO is Daniel Heiman, and Eric Adams, and Geoff Tate, and Michael Kiske, and John Cyriis.

Yeah, these guys are all overrated. Honestly, what have they contributed ?? :lame:

King Diamond and Tobias Sammet are both amazing vocalists. Fuck opinions in this matter, KD is a legend. As for Tobias, listen to his vocals in Avantasia's The Final Sacrifice, up against David Defeis and he holds his own quite well.
