For me the guitar tone and power of it set the standard quite a bit. The first time I heard Van Halen I I knew Eddie was something special and he altered the approach to the instrument forever. Judas Priest have impressed me twice, so much so that I always find that I've never heard anything close since. First, the dive bomb/feedback at the end of the song 'Screaming For vengeance'. I had never heard a guitar sound like that before. Second, the opening chord in 'Some Heads Are Gonna Roll'. Glenn Tipton provides a guitar sound that's about as metal as you can get. I would also have to throw in Metallica. The sound that came out of my speakers @ the 0:42 mark from 'Fight Fire With Fire' changed metal quite a bit and helped define a whole new genre. I just remember stepping away saying, 'What the hell is this?' Last, I would have to give mention to Yngwie Malmsteen and his Rising Force. That first album pushed guitar playing, once again, to a new level.

Agreed. Flawless. Although the Heavenly songs tends to be alittle long, it has a perfect "metal" sound, as if it can pass has a death metal sound with clean vocals. The same goes with Pyramaze "Legend of the Bone Carver." As for Equilibrium, the last song "mana" is great! But I thought the first half of the song should have been cut out and start with the "new age" part that goes into the hyper double bass that has a great melody.
