Watching this week's Question Time, I'm beginning to think that Nick Griffin shouldn't be on there at all. The UKIP prat came off very well, and wasn't challenged at all over his party's anti-immigration policies. Roll on tomorrow I suppose.

You have to ask yourself: when the BNP got the invite onto Question Time was the first thing they though "shit! they will ask us hard questions and we'll be exposed as racist twats!".

Or did they think "awesome, we can tone it all down and appear as the common sense antidote to those free trade parties everybody hates!"

Not saying they shouldn't be let on the show... they do have 2 MEPs after all, but the idea that there's going to be this heroic "exposure" of them by Jack Straw and Chris Huhne is painful wishful thinking. Nothing good will come of it.

I'm expecting some kind of UAF protest that turns the whole thing into a debacle, frankly. Jack Straw isn't the first person I'd have debating the BNP by any means - Tony Benn busy? Charlie Brooker and Ian Hislop come to mind, but it's not HIGNFY... Hopefully DD will keep things moving, at least, and Griffin's wonky eye will make him look as repulsive as his politics.

Unfortunately Tony Benn- and possibly even Charlie Brooker- are to the left of New Labour and therefore unwelcome on Question Time nowadays... at least, the last several episodes of it I've seen haven't featured anyone left of Labour.

You'd have thought given all that is going on in the country at the moment they'd have had a trade unionist on- someone like Billy Hayes of CWU, perhaps. But as it is, if a question about striking posties comes up (as it inevitably will), the only person willing to defend them on the panel will be Griffin.

Sadly, yes. Bonnie Greer's a bit of an unknown, to me at least - getting Sami from Liberty might have been better so Griffin can't attack immigration. Tariq Ali, in a dream line-up?

Interesting point here:

Tariq Ali would have been great but I can't imagine him being let within 1000 miles of QT  Mark Steel is someone they've had on quite a lot, he would have been pretty good as a counter.

Bonnie Greer is pretty left-leaning, certainly, but I don't think she's the right person at all to talk about strikes etc. But she's very interesting on race, though, which perhaps makes her a good choice.

Not according to the BNP she isn't:

http://bnp.org.uk/2009/10/bbc-calls-on- ... tion-time/

The Guardian's running a countdown blog, a few interesting links there, including one to a Times interview where Griffin says that the BBC are idiots for letting him on. I do like QT overall - you'd never get it in America, for one - but I'm starting to agree with those that think this is a ratings puller for Auntie.

Haha hopefully he'll be stupid enough to try and call her that in person.

Btw, QT coincides with a new episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm on More4, so I may very well miss most of it anyway.

Heh, CYE is infinitely more appealing. Trying to catch up a bit with Seinfeld before I watch this new season, however, in case of in-jokes.

Wow, just wow. The Republican party has seriously lost its mind, even the "maverick" John McCain voted against this amendment.

Larry David lollage or Griffin's an arse lollage? Not seen the latter yet, but I hear it went well for everyone but him.

Just watched. Dick Griffin! Jack Straw was godawful, pontificating endlessly, and the Tory cow and Chris Huhne (slightly better, but still a big let-down) were nearly as bad... Bonnie Greer, on the other hand, was amazing, down to earth, to the point and wonderfully patronising to Griffin. Griffin was awkward as fuck, and DD his usual badass self. Overall, a success, not a good week for the BNP at all and I'm glad they were dragged into the light.

And a final WTFLOL at NuLabour pandering to the left.

Yeah I didn't watch Larry in the end so I shall hope and pray that it shows up "On Demand" otherwise I shall have inflicted a massive calamity on myself.
:omfg:

Yeah it was funny, Dick looked like a total twat. Pleasantly surprising, because I thought the BBC would have been very careful to prevent the whole thing just being about him.

The downside is the fact that literally everyone on the panel tacitly accepted Nick Griffin's logic that immigration "has gone too far" and showed no sign of challenging it as an underlying premise.

Only caught the last 10 minutes, but my God did he make a clown out of himself with that big rambling homophobic rant.
