I don't know anything about this band other than the song "I Wanna Be Somebody". I am reluctant to buy anything just because of the publicity shit they're known for and the fact that they are a well known 80's band associated with the hair metal movement.....but i've heard some good things.....can anyone tell me anything about them?

Get their self titled debut album. It's a great album with songs similar to I Wanna Be Somebody. If you want an epic, more story driven album try The Crimson Idol.

Love WASP, they were wrongly associated with the glam scene of the 80's but besides their looks they're actually a kick ass Heavy Metal band.

Their first two albums are CLASSICS and i think this is were you should start but their best album and one of my favourite conceptual metal albums of all time is IMO "The Crimson Idol" , then you could listen to "The Headless Children" wich is almost as awesome as crimson idol, then the rest of their discography its pretty consistent.

I never really got into WASP. I have 2 albums, and neither of them do anything for me. I think Blackie's voice ruins it for me, I just can't stand him.

I just got into them about two years ago. Never thought I'd like them for some reason, but they kick ass! I really dig all the albums, even KFD.

This. The self tiitled, the last command, the crimson idol & the headless chidren are the better place to start .

I love everything they've done, but the headless children and the crimson idol are my favorites. Inside the electric circus is a little underrated

Self titled and The Last Command contain most of their classics; i like the Last Command a bit better; The Headless Children is also very good, a bit different, more serious in the lyrics department; The Crimson Idol, i have a hard time getting into, mostly due to the very bizzare drumming(tom rolls all the way through, wtf?).

W.A.S.P. crank out endless fist-pumping, arena metal anthems.

Blind In Texas
I Wanna Be Somebody
L.O.V.E. Machine
Wild Child

all killer songs.

Both live albums kick ass too ("Live...In the Raw" and "Double Live Assassins.")

Newer W.A.S.P. albums, while not as consistent, still have a tendency to include 4 - 6 great songs.

Very consistent, underrated band.

Holy shit, H_T doesn't know W.A.S.P.? Blasphemy!

Headless Children and especially Crimson Idol are their two best. The self titled debut is also worth getting, as well as their most recent one, Dominator, and Unholy Terror. And then just get their entire discography. Because W.A.S.P. is awesome, and Blackie Lawless' vocals are amazing.

All the comments so far are dead on. I'd add Helldorado to the list, and if you want something a little more recent, try Dying For The World and Dominator

As most people already said, The Crimson Idol rules supreme and The Headless Children comes close. From recent stuff, Dominator is their best.

I recommend: Crimson Idol, Headless Children & self-titled, in that order.

I just relistened to The Last Command, for the first time in years, and man how could I have forgotten how awesome that album is. Wild Child, Ball breaker, Widow maker, Blind in Texas, Fistful of Diamonds, it's virtually hit after hit. And Cries In The Night's got be of one the best ballads I've ever heard. Ever.

I've payed attention to W.A.S.P. off and on ever since their debut album. Basically W.A.S.P. is Blackie Lawless. It's his baby and he writes most of the songs. Depending on what your tastes are I'd recommend:
W.A.S.P. (debut album)
The Headless Children
The Crimson Idol
Neon God
Dominator

These are my favorites but there are a few other good ones in between those.

Gave a bunch of their stuff a listen. Not for me. And Oldschool, you'll be interested to know that I will be attending the Pentagram concert tonight in Detroit.

I think their earlier stuff is the best. Especially Self-titled being their best album in my own opinion.
