This discussion has prompted me to pull out my old megadeth albums and give em a listen. I have come to the conclusion that Megadeth has never released a thrash metal album. The closest is Killing is My Business, and that's barely thrash metal. This notion that they are a thrash metal band is ludicrous. They are either a fast heavy metal band, or a speed metal band. Not thrash. They never play thrash beats, the riffs don't sound like typical thrash metal riffs (like Exodus, Heathen, or Kreator play)....so stop referring to Megadeth as a thrash metal band. I also think its stupid to refer to Metallica as thrash metal, because they, like Megadeth, are not thrash metal.
I feel like history, general knowledge, experts and personal opinion disagree with you.

Partially agree. Megadeth haven't released an album that's "total thrash". Isn't Megadeth one of the bands that pioneered speed metal? Their albums were more a combo of heavy/speed/thrash metal. Same with Metallica. But, both bands albums do have thrash in them. I wouldn't say both bands haven't ever released an album that has thrash in it.

my issue is with people referring to metallica and megadeth as thrash bands. Inappropriate.

Just got done reading the Blabbermouth review of Endgame. Again, people keep referring to the album as a thrash metal album, and Megadeth as a thrash metal band. WHAT THE FUCK?? Its like people don't even know what thrash metal sounds like. People can go on and on about how there are thrashy parts in the songs....but that does not qualify a band as being thrash metal. All of these Megadeth fan boys coming out of the wood work to hail the new best thrash album of the century. It honestly pisses me off. The same dudes who talk about how Pantera is an awesome thrash metal band. They're either retarded middle aged pantera fans, or stupid retro poser boys who don't know anything about the classics and just bought the album because they saw it at hot topic next to a dimmu borgir album. ARGHHH!

There. My ranting is over. I promise.

Megadeth aren't Thrash now, and play the same style of music as Pantera? Oh noes.

so if I like Endgame, and is one of my favourites of 2009, where do I fall? Mid-aged Pantera fan? Megadeth fanboy? stupid retro fan poser who just bought the album from hot topic?

or maybe, I can enjoy the classic albums of years gone by and also enjoy a new Megadeth album that happens to be good.

Beloved Walnut, I never insinuated that you were one of those I described.....that is unless you think Megadeth is a thrash metal band. I don't care if you like the album or not, that's not the issue. My problem is with the categorization. From what I've heard of the album, its better than anything they've done since RIP, but then again, I've never been a huge megadeth fan, although I will concede that they are much much better than Metallica.

So you see, I never said that Megadeth plays the same style as Pantera. So that should take care of what Goat said.

And Beloved Walnut, I never said that if you like the album you suck....no no no good sir. I merely stated that calling Megadeth a thrash metal band is for the birds.

No, they are not thrash. And to say so would expose one's knowledge of metal to considerable scrutiny. Please don't do it....I beg you.
