This is for the Youthanasia fans.

Every song on Youthanasia shits all over Tears in a Vail. Plus you said an album made up of just the faster songs.
Actually Tears in a Vial is a faster song. :P (compared to others from TSHF) Especially the last minute. And e.g. Play for Blood is not much faster.

And don't take anything so literal.

If you didn't take anything literally then you'd be hard to communicate with.

Maybe he meant 'don't take anything literal' - ie, don't swallow literary texts.

And finally: It doesn't matter, because I have now the cd and while I've heard the songs on the web not so proper, I can now enjoy it complete and the first impression is, that the second half is even better than the beginning. I knew the songs but when I've heard the first half it was quite good, but when the galloping Part in Endgame began at 1:33 it made click - yes this is the shit! :dio:

Best songs so far: Endgame, Headcrusher, 1,320 and This Day we Fight.

But the rest is growing fast. Even the midtempo songs.

I listened to the album on Rhapsody today. Wow, I must say I'm impressed. This is certainly Megadeth's thrashiest album since Rust In Peace. In fact, when I listened to some of the guitar work on Dialectic Chaos, I almost had to check the Rhapsody Music Player to see if I was playing RIP by mistake. Like last year's Death Magnetic, most of the songs are straight-up thrashers. With some obvious Countdown To Extinction and Youthanasia influences tossed in at some points. It certainly beats United Abominations, and I'd say that on the whole, it's better than DM.

I guess I have to come clean and admit (to everyone including myself) that Youthanasia is no longer my overall favorite Megadeth album. Instead, it's now "one of my favorite Megadeth albums." I'd say my overall favorite would probably be Rust In Peace.

I'd rank my top three Megadeth albums like this at the moment (and they'll probably stay that way for a while):

1. Rust In Peace
2. The System Has Failed
3. Youthanasia

Fourth would probably be a tie between Endgame and Cryptic Writings, although CW does contain what are ultimately my two favorite Megadeth songs (Trust and Almost Honest).

Either way, all five are great albums IMO. As are Peace Sells and Countdown To Extinction.

My All Time list at this moment is

1. Peace Sells
2. Rust in Peace
3. So Far So Good So What
4. Endgame
5. Countdown to Extinction
6. United Abominations
7. The System has Failed
8. Cryptic Writings
9. Killing is my Business
10. Youthanasia
11. Risk
12. The World Needs a Hero

Whereas it changes all the time. But the classic trio from the 80s is nearly unbeatable. Even if Endgame is close, but the others have the classic bonus and it's hard to compete. It's like Metallicas Death Magnetic compared to RTL, MOP or AJFA.

First thing's first. Rust in Peace is not a thrash metal album. Arguably the only one that is thrash is Killing is My Business and maybe Peace Sells. Everything else though in my opinion is speed metal. Especially Rust in Peace. I find it insulting to thrashers that anything Marty Friedman ever played on could be considered thrash. Plus its just too damn tight and technical to be thrash in my opinion. I know people will be throwing Watchtower and Toxik at me saying they are technical thrash...and Realm, but those bands at least have a thrash metal base to their music. I just don't hear it in Rust in Peace. So that's my input.

And regarding Endgame, I've only heard Headcrusher and I thought that song was lame as hell....but then again, you can't expect Dave Mustaine to write good music because he's still trying to outdo Metallica on a commercial level. He wants money, and he's getting it. It's a shame, his music was far superior when he was on drugs.

Wow, Killing is My Business is ninth?? This is sheer lunacy. Just for the sake of argument, how could one of the most historically significant heavy metal albums of the 80's be worse than Cyrptic Writings, The System Has Failed, United Abominations....etc, etc. ARGHHHHH!!! I'm sorry, my brain exploded from the sheer ridiculousness of the above posted list.

I don't know, but for me the songs are too chaotic and too wild and even the production of the remastered version is just bad, even compared to e.g. Kill em All or Show No Mercy or other contemporary thrash records.

KIMBABIG is awesome. How can a thrash metal song be "too wild"?

??? Megadeth and Metallica in the 80s were always Speed and Thrash Metal. They had the speed and melody of speed metal and they had the typical staccato thrash riffs.

Ok, RIP is very progressive, but so was And justice for all.

There was always the melodic thrash faction (Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Annihilator, Testament...) and the brutal thrash faction (Slayer, Sodom, Kreator, Destruction...).
