Actually, you probably WOULD need to buy an old computer to play Half Life. Or at least buy a second hard drive with Windows No-Later-Than-XP installed on it.

Naw, HL works fine on Windows 7. Valve can code. And while I'm running the Steam version, I'm sure the original unpatched version would work as well.

Agreed. They are splendid and Kotor 2 will always have a special place in my heart.
Are you aware of the modding community for it?
There are two teams that works on a project each that aims to restore all the cut content from the second game, which is a lot.

So I'm considering going for this new Championship Manager download-and-pay-what-you-want thing, just wondering if anyone else was? And I've not played it since CM3, so are the changes massive? Cheers in advance.

Edit: A bit of research reveals the whole Eidos/Sports Interactive issue, and that what I think of as the Champ Man series is now the Football Manager series? Is that correct? Should I go for a FI game instead? Come on, MR, help me out here.

Wow that's impressive to say the least.I knew KotoR 2 seemed a bit hacked towards the end but I had no idea it was so drastic. Was it because of publisher constraints on pushing the game out in time for a holiday release?I played both when they launched on my Xbox and recall well my envy of PC gamers and their mods(my comp sucked back then),but if these games work well enough in Vista I'll have to get them.Oh and are the mods easy to install?Hopefully, cause its been some time since my more knowledgable computer skills were utilized.

That final trailer for the new endings was amazing, the music and especially the acting.OMG I miss those games....Thanks man! :dio:

Oh and what do people think of Blind Guardian in Sacred 2?I love it,really awesome! The song itself is a good one too.

Yeah that's correct. Supposedly FM is much better. Although having not played a Champ game since 97/98 edition I don't rightly know. Fuck, I can't think about that now, though... I was a slave to it.

Heh, well I discovered that you can download Champ Man 01/02 from their website for free, and will probably mess around with that until the 2010 versions of CM and FM come out later this year...

Link is http://eidos.http.internapcdn.net/eidos ... cm0102.zip for those interested. You can update it with modern data, too.

If memory serves, the studio was shut down right after the release of Kotor 2, so they had a pretty tight schedule. Better look that up to be sure though :)
When, and IF anyone of those two mods gets completed I can only guess how the installation will be like, never tried any mod for those games before. Sure they'll put up a nice guide.

The next game in my Gamefly queue, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, came in yesterday. A very nifty survival horror game. I especially like how, unlike Resident Evil, it doesn't simply rely on cheap scares for its horror.

I also cancelled my World Of Warcraft subscription, since I just don't have the incentive or time to actively play it.

Played several versions of CM and FM and am currently hooked on FM09. Gotta say that FM is the way to go these days, it's just a overall better and more detailed game. Thing is though, since FM08, I always wait 2-3 months before getting the new game because it is full of bugs, sadly the kind of ones that make it pretty difficult to win a fucking match. But despite that, I still recommend Football Managers over CM.

Cheers, I think I'll stick to this old CM I have now until they get FM 2010 patched up, heard bad things about FM09 and can't really be bothered going back to FM08... the fact that the new CM 2010 will be pay-what-you-want (min £2.51) is going to get it a few more fans.

I love Eternal Darkenss. Some of the stuff in the house like the glitches and random "dying" are sheer mindfuckery at its best.

BTW, should I pick up the original Silent Hill someday? I've played SH2 on PS2 and didn't like it. But is the original better?

I know it's getting a remake on the Wii and PS2 fairly soon. That may be the way to go, if it's any good.

If you didn't like SH2, then you shouldn't bother with the rest of the series.

Yeah my opinion too. SH1 is just a low-res version of SH2.

My problems with SH2 were threefold:

1. Its graphics were horribly dated when I bought it. At least PS1 graphics still have a certain charm about them. Dated PS2 graphics, however, are much worse.

2. There seemed to be way too much backtracking.

3. I just didn't find it to be that scary. I know the Silent Hill games are more about creating an unsettling atmosphere than having a lot of "jump at the seems" moments a la Resident Evil. But I didn't even find the game's environment to be all that frightening. May be I just hadn't played it long enough? I dunno.

Looking back, I think the fact that I owned too many video games to really have the time for back then probably made it harder for me to enjoy the game. And so, may be if I bought the original now (after selling about 3/4 of my entire video game library), I'll enjoy it more than I enjoyed SH2. And, if I decide to re-buy SH2, it will probably be the X-Box version, provided that it's compatible with my X-Box 360.

1) SH2 is one of my favorite games. The graphics don't really matter to me, tbh, because it's more about the atmosphere they create than how dated they are, and they create one fuck of an atmosphere. Hell, SH1, with it's terrible PS1 graphics still scared the fuck out of me on a regular basis.

2) And Metroid games don't? lol, I don't think there's much backtracking at all in SH2, at least no mandatory backtracking.

3) SH2 has one of the best game atmospheres ever. It really started to get to me in the Hospital, but I don't know if you got that far. Further on in the game at the Historical Society through the Prison and the Labyrinth, man, I tried playing all three parts in one sitting, and by the end I was nearly shaking with anxiety and felt a little sick. Seriously, that game really gets to my after a while. If it doesn't do anything for you, then there's not much I can really say; it's just not for you.

I'd say try SH3. That game has a much more aggressive atmosphere and much better graphics, but it's a lot shorter. Also, if you're a stickler for story continuity, then you might actually want to play SH1 first.

I am a stickler for story continuity. So I'd probably do better to pick up the original first. To be honest, I didn't even make it past the Apartment Complex in SH2.

I just picked up copies of Conan, Viking (Battle For Asgard), and Kameo this weekend. I really like the Conan game so far and my only complaint is the voiceover work for Conan. Awful. My favorite Conan move is the duel sword chop that takes your enemies arms off at the shoulder. Fantastic! I played Viking this morning for about an hour and found that to be cool hack n' slash too. The dismembering in Viking is even better. I bought Kameo with my nine year old in mind. I will say that it's cool kid fun and magnificent to look at.

Just keep in mind that you really need to play it at night under as little light as possible. It just doesn't work otherwise.

And the "story continuity" thing only really applies for SH1 and SH3, SH2 is more or less unrelated.

My girlfriend got Madworld for her wii. Sticking a dude on a spike so it goes up his ass and comes out his mouth is hilarious

Also it has John DiMaggio voicework (otherwise known as Bender :D)

Nice dude, good games, especially Conan imho.I love it just wish it were longer and had co-op.I think the voice acting was fine, more of the dialogue wasn't alot to go with.Ron Perlman is a good actor imho.Kameo is also great.I got it at launch and have been waiting for a sequel for some time now.Too short and kidie but its gorgeous and the music is great. The ending touches me every time, but I love sacrifices like that ala Boromir.
