SLAYER guitarist Kerry King has told U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine that he has heard through the grapevine that METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich is plotting a tour that would include METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX.

Should this tour materialize, this would be the first time that the so-called "Big Four" of thrash have toured together as part of the same bill. MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX were joined by opening act ALICE IN CHAINS for the U.S. Clash Of The Titans tour in 1991, while METALLICA and MEGADETH last shared a U.K. stage at Milton Keynes Bowl in 1993.

In an interview conducted yesterday (Wednesday, September 2) in London, Metal Hammer asked Kerry if there had been a temptation to bring the co-headline tour that SLAYER are about to embark on with MEGADETH in Australia and Canada to U.K. shores.

"I think it would be cool but I knew we had this planned before all of this MEGADETH stuff started happening," said King. "They're going to Australia with us, they're going to Canada again with us. I think it would be cool for the European fans to bring that over here because, shit, we didn't even consider playing with those guys since 1990."

So could it be possible that we could get a tour that includes the "Big Four?"

"I've heard people referencing Lars," said King. "I don't know Lars that well and I haven't heard it from Lars, but apparently he's talking to somebody about it. Maybe us, METALLICA, MEGADETH (and), I think he even threw in ANTHRAX and I said in this day and age, I know we had that time together, but how do you leave out MACHINE HEAD? There's better options than ANTHRAX and that's nothing against ANTHRAX, but they've just been in pieces for quite some time and that doesn't make as much sense to me."

great idea for a tour, i think it would bring a lot of metalheads out of the woodwork to go see four phenomenal bands. I don't think it will happen given the touring schedules of all the bands; but if it did it would be a pretty awesome tour..
even with megadeth

I only like Megadeth out of those 4, dunno how interested I'd be... But I might make a trip out for such a show just because all 4 are doing a tour together. It's not like it's something that happens every year.

and definitely lol Anthrax. HOW COULD THEY LEAVE OUT MACHINE HEAD? FUCKING MACHINE HEAD.

I wonder how much the tickets will be and if most in the audience will be missing a pound of flesh.

Testament would be way more sick than Anthrax. They should look into that.

Yeah, Testament instead of Anthrax. Fuck Anthrax; even Dimmu Borgir are better at firing members and they don't lie about the reasons for it.

The new Anthrax album had better be a great one. Otherwise, I think it will be safe to say that their entire career has been shot. Unlike Metallica, Anthrax never had an enormous amount of mainstream success. In fact, they were probably the least influential and commercially successful of the Big Four. And now, not only do they have little remaining respect from the metal community, but they're hardly even recognized by the mainstream. So, if their next album is a dud like St. Anger was, they'll probably have a much harder time recovering their reputation than Metallica did. Because they'll basically have almost nothing to fall back on. Let's look at this:

1. Joey and John are long gone, yet the band keeps pining for them to somehow come back.

2. We've Come For You All, despite being a pretty decent (if unremarkable) album, was a commercial failure. Even though the band was hoping it would be the next Master Of Puppets.

3. Benante responded to the album's lack of commercial success by posting all these piss rants on Blabbermouth.net about how Americans were all stupid and metal was dead (even though, that same year, Iron Maiden had no problem selling a truckload of copies of Dance Of Death).

4. The band resorted to making an entire album of re-recorded Joey Belladonna era songs (resorting to remixing old songs from a bygone era is usually a pretty clear sign that you've run out of steam).

5. The band's Greatest Hits compilation and CD copy of their Joey Belladonna reunion tour barely sold 20,000 copies combined.

5. The band took almost three years to find a new vocalist and then fired him before they could do a single album with him.

And so on. I love Anthrax and would be absolutely thrilled if they could produce something on par with Among The Living, Persistence Of Time, or Sound Of White Noise. But, right now, the future looks pretty bleak for them. I hope they prove me wrong, but I wouldn't put my money on it.

There isn't a venue in the world that could handle that much ego in one place at one time. Benante, Ulrich, Mustaine, and King alone would suck up all of the hot air in the place.

They've never been one of the big four though... And they never had the potential to either.

How about just Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer, thus saving us from either Testament or Anthrax.

Everybody wins!

well if they come along, then we could drop Metallica and Testament.

But I was trying to keep it to the more popular american thrash bands of yesteryear.
