Shut up, it's not funny. Or maybe it is. We just look like pathetic money-grabbing assholes now.

I hate to sound all cynical, but I can't believe that's the first time that an innocent man's been murdered by the state, especially in Texas.

Yes, when you kill as many people as Texas does, you're bound to fuck up sooner or later. I don't like it, but I'm not the least bit surprised either.

Can someone please reassure me that this Glenn Beck fellow is satirical and that millions of people don't actually believe what he says? The world is raising its eyebrows at you, Amurrurrica, and trying not to giggle - at least Nick Griffin sounds sort of intelligent, even with the creepy wonky eye.

glenn beck may or may not be satirical but millions of people do in fact believe what he says. I'm leaning towards may not for the most part.

and please, the world has its eyebrows in a permanent state of raised when it comes to the subject of this useless, broken country; it keeps them from having to look inward at their own failings.

Haha, failings? Nowhere fails as hard as America at the moment except for certain countries in the Middle East. I bet the normal half of the population are really missing LBJ. Heck, Nixon was a better politician than Obama is being right now. He lacks balls. That healthcare legislation would have forced through months ago were it over here. Fuck, we nearly brought in laws to detain terrorist suspects longer than you guys do. Never mind no town hall meetings, just get the hell on with it!

Really, American failings... did liberals whine this much when, say, Bush Snr gave speeches to schoolkids? It's hilarious.

lol @ Glenn "The Weepening" Beck.

Goat, do you have some kind of man-crush on LBJ? I've lost count of how many times you've expressed your love for him in recent weeks.

The more I read about him, the more awesome he seems. I'm not saying he's the perfect leader or anything, but aside from being the greatest liberal of the 20th century he was a massively entertaining guy. He was also a brilliant politician; makes Rahm Emmanuel seem like Iain Duncan-Smith. I love reading about American Presidents simply because of how amazingly fucked-up they were to a man, certainly more colourful and interesting than British politicians. And yes, Obama looks increasingly bad in comparison to ol'LBJ, 'Nam or not.

The US is not the UK or Canada when it comes to the power of a majority government to slam legislation through Parliament. US Politicians often do not vote along party lines .. Obama's biggest problem right now is within his own party (who incidently I believe have a filibuster proof majority).

As for his failings as a politician, simply put, he underestimated the strength, nature and longevity of his mandate .. now he's managed to re-awaken the age-old suspicion of government by trying to force feed 'socialized medicine' to the populace. Too much, too soon.

Hmm, greatest liberal? Really? Surely there must be better ones...

I agree with GeneralDiomedes: US representatives do seem to have a lot more autonomy from their party than British ones. We have a few big-name mavericks, and a bunch of sulky backbenchers, but Tony and Gordon have always had it their own way. Whereas BO's scheming might well collapse due to the "Blue Dog Democrats".

Dead Machine, you are clearly just jealous of our turbo universal healthcare +3 skills.

Ted Kennedy? Maybe one of the Yanks can help here...

I think it's as much down to personality over here; there are plenty of rebellious backbenchers, no? Plus TB had to face the House of Lords, who are a bad idea democratically but usually save the day when faced with the silly laws like 49-day detention or whatever fascist nonsense NuLab wanted to push through.

And yes, our lack of the Death Penalty and gain of the NHS makes da UK a pretty strong hand to beat...
