Our main difference is that you are actually out of bed at, or even earlier than, 9:30 am. It's now 5 am here, and I am just going to bed now. I will be dead to the world for the next 12 or so hours.

Can anyone tell me if these are good shows? Thinking about borrowing/buying some from my uncle (he's the Internet Movie Database in human form :D )

Angel
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Dead Zone
Life

Life was one of the most original and funny cop shows I've ever seen. It's a must see!

Otherwise I'm currently watching Defying Gravity a new scifi series billed as Grey's Anatomy in space. Quite enjoyable.

Still trying to finish the last few Prison Break eps.

Burn Notice is still one of the best series out there, damn!!!

When are you supposed to start with Angel, chronologically? After s7 of Buffy? Someone told me after s4 of Buffy...?

Chronologically it's after season 3. Here's how it goes:

Buffy seasons 1-3
Angel season 1= Buffy season 4
Angel season 2= Buffy season 5
Angel season 3= Buffy season 6
Angel season 4= Buffy season 7
Angel season 5

There actually are crossovers, mainly in the early seasons of Angel, though they seem to be picking up again in seasons 4-5, so this can matter. For example, there's a small Faith arc in Buffy season 4 which gets concluded in Angel season 1. And I just started watching Angel season 5 before I had seen Buffy season 7, which spoiled me for a big part of the ending of that show.

But anyway, regardless of the crossover stuff, you should watch Angel. After season 1, which is kind of directionless and has too many standalones, the show really takes off and IMO surpasses Buffy, especially seasons 4-6. And having just finished Angel season 4, I do think that it's the best season of either show.

Willdo, probably when Buffy is finished.
In the meantime, Dexter s2; I don't like this weird British woman who looks like a poor man's Lena Headey.

NP - The Prodigy - Firestarter

If you don't like her now, you will hate her as the season gets on. And jesus, you are far behind, season 4 starts in less than a month.

Finished disc 1 season 1 of The Wire. Great show, really digging it. Season 1 will be on my next amazon order.

So... the two shows are connected? Didn't know that... are there similar storylines? Or same characters?

Angel was Buffy's boyfriend for the first two or three seasons. His partners Cordelia and Wesley were both from Buffy. Similar storylines of battle demons and save the day.

tonights episode of True Blood was probably the weirdest one ever.

It was very good, and like any episode of True Blood, it leaves you wanting more, more, more dammit!

my main gripe tho is, why did it end so damn early? Started at 9 pm, over at 9:43 pm? craziness.

Just finished Angel Season 5, a.k.a. the last season of Angel. My thoughts (SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!COCK)

I can see why Radagast said he found it disappointing. There were too many standalones, especially at the beginning of the season, and more importantly, there were too many boring standalones. But when the writers were willing to try out something new, they made some bloody great episodes that had little to do with plot- The Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinco was so wonderfully odd, and Smile Time, the one where Angel is turned into a puppet, is one of the funniest episodes of TV I've ever seen.

But some of the writing was off for even the plot episodes, which pretty much is new ground for Angel, which you could always count on for great arc episodes. The one where Fred dies was absolutely horrible, overly sentimental dreck- Whedon should be ashamed of himself for writing that one. Parts of the Illyria story were kind of boring. And Spike, until he became corporealized, was pretty useless- that being said, his character became enjoyable again after his crappy turn in mid Buffy season 5, so good on him.

Overall though, I really enjoyed it. Lindsay had a great role, Spike became a good rival to Angel, and the intensity of the season really ramped up towards the end. And then there was the finale, which was perfect in every way. I love that they ended the series on a giant cliffhanger, with Angel and the remaining gang standing drenched in the rain, about to face the Senior Partners' army. That's the whole point of the show. They keep fighting together, even though they'll never win, even though it's not going to matter for more than a few minutes, and they'll do it no matter how much the world pisses on them. I'm so happy the writers went that route instead of showing the gang winning and wrapping everything up with a happy bow.

So, an inconsistent season, but ultimately very rewarding.

And the non-spoiler part, to all y'all who haven't watched Angel: Do. I know spinoffs have a bad reputation, but this show really merits attention. True, it starts off pretty weak in season 1, but after that it really begins to exceed Buffy in every way. Angel is a dark show, about a group of people who have generally fucked up and have to keep on fighting. They rarely win, and the shit keeps on piling on (especially in seasons 3-4, and at the end of season 5). The characters are developed naturally and darkly; it amuses me that the same production company which called the wanky melodrama of Buffy season 6 and made Willow a crack addict to make her "dark" could completely pull off the development of Wesley from a bumbling idiot to a dark, competent, assholish badass. And Angel, who is a pretty boring character in Buffy, really comes into his own and is one of the best leading characters in television (nicely coinciding with this is Boreanaz's development into an excellent actor over the course of the series). I'm so happy I watched this show. Though it had it's weaker seasons (season 1 in particular, and the first half of season 5 generally) and though each season except season 4 had some pretty bad episodes mixed here or there, it's definitely one of the best shows I've ever seen, and I'm so happy they ended it perfectly.

And now... It's finally time to finish off Deadwood and Buffy.

I love how you put quite big spoilers in the spoiler-free section of your post. That's great, that is.

So... first you watch season 1-3 of Buffy, and then at the same time you're watching Buffy season 4, you begin Angel season 1? And you do that until Buffy ends... and then you watch the fifth season of Angel?

Now I'm just confused.

Ha, sorry. There are some spoilers, but they're pretty vague and related to character development mainly; do you think I should minimize that?

Finished Dexter season 2! Spoileriffic musings to follow...

The bit at the end where Dexter kills Lila (the pyro bitch) in Paris seemed a bit tagged on, almost as if they were afraid of the show getting cancelled and wanted to tie up the loose ends. I'd have preferred it if she got away, tbh. Still, Doakes' death was epic, and although I could have predicted Buffalo Bill going off for another case and leaving Deb in the dirt it still was an emotional moment.

I'm stuck for criticism overall though! Great show, love to see more.

Season 3 is good, but a little too mushy lovey dovey stuff. Season 4 starts in 1 month and 2 days, can't wait.
