I lub KT Tunstall and Holly McNarland. Eye to the Telescope and Numb don't have any bad songs and are the closest I've heard to perfect pop albums.

I lub her too. Her moans in The Dancer are sexy, hilarious and spine tingling which I didn't think was possible.

Plus one to PJ Harvey and DiFranco, Apple and Simon, plus KT Tunstall to a lesser extent (Drastic Fantastic was a letdown). AND:

Kate Bush
Bat For Lashes
Bjork
Jarboe
Joni Mitchell
Kate Nash
Norah Jones
Regina Spektor

Are are varying levels of great.

Agreed.

Maybe that's stating the obvious but Tori Amos has some good albums too.

You not into Jarboe? Tut. I also forgot to mention Diamanda Galás. *shiver*

There was "pop" in the thread's name... Jarboe hardly defines as pop.

I always feel singer/songwriter doesn't apply to the avant-garde... Maybe that's just me...

Heh, not really, but if it spreads the word I don't see the harm in popping their names in. This thread will probably die a quick death anyways.

Yeah it is. I can't exactly pinpoint why I don't like it as much as Eye to the Telescope but something about the songs doesn't really grab me. Sarah Slean had a similar thing happen from Night Bugs --> Day One.
