Oh, sure, I'm not a fan of partisan politics. It's not the party that's in the right, it's the various theories and ideologies. As far as that goes, I guess I'd consider myself a social democrat.

Watching some stuff about the health care bill on TV riles me up. People are ferocious with their vitriol on the topic to the point where it's disgusting. I would've never imagined shit like this going on when Clinton was president. I'm blaming it on just a general antipathy towards Obama. I hate to say it but politics never made people this angry before why start now that he wants to give care to everyone if they want it. People's use of totalitarianism, socialism, communism and fascism has been on a rise the last few weeks. The fact that they throw those four together, no matter what your opinions on the four are, shows that these people are idiots cause those ideas simply aren't synonyms.

Yeah, what are your guys' opinions of the healthcare debate in the US? If you don't already know, basically the majority of Americans want healthcare reform and liberals especially are pushing for universal healthcare. But, a loud conservative minority is shooting a lot of this down...another point to know is that some liberals are angry that Obama is compromising on the effort rather than just pushing through totally universal healthcare. I'd be especially interested to hear from some of the Europeans who maybe live in countries that already have socialized medicine--does it work?

Personally, I'm all for socializing medicine. The amount that people have to pay is absolutely ridiculous and healthcare costs have ruined many people's lives...not to mention those that don't receive treatment because their insurance doesn't cover it.

Socializing medicine would be a step up. I've never had a complaint with European medical systems, and I've experienced the British one (albeit as a very young child), the French, the Italian, and the Swiss. I was debating people on facebook for a bit, it's scary how many people are paranoid about "socialism" becoming "communism" and having the government "control when we have to die".

As I said before, I'm truly incensed that they're using Daily Mail horror stories as 'proof' of the "socialist uselessness" of the NHS, something which may sometimes fuck up but which overall is wonderful. Stop complaining about rude nurses and rubbish food, and try spending all the money you spent on adverts on making the system better, you profit-chasing fucks. The U.S. healthcare system is a disaster.
Something has to be done; it is an outrage that insurance companies can fleece the public the way they do.
Do not get me started on this countries sick fucking joke of a government, Wall Street and the insurance industry.

More miserable families on one side, V... really, we've had this argument multiple times over the course of this thread, and nothing has changed in the arguments, and I really don't want to kick it all off again. If you totalled up all the white-on-black crime since the dawn of creation, chances are it would outweigh the recorded b-o-w crime statistics - 54.33483% of which are made up anyways. Can't we go back to healthcare?
