A friend of mine called them droning, hypotic raw black metal but coming from him and the list of recommendations he's given me thats not too reliable. Do you guys know anything about them or can you guys recommend me a good cd?

James/Minty reviewed some of their stuff.

Pretty much says it all. I'm rarely in a DBM mood these days, although I did listen to an entire early Mortiis album before, so what do I know.

Good band. They have some bone chilling eerie stuff but I'm in the summer mood dawg. Now is not the time. Maybe in winter when I'm depressed I can go back to listening to black metal.

I'd go with the first two albums or either/or, another band where you don't really need more than one release. I think he attempts to be "droning hypnotic raw black metal", but whether he succeeds is up to you really. Bands like Burzum managed to create many atmospheric riffs and solos that fit together like a pieces of a puzzle, and Varg seems to have known that repetition for the sake of seeming "atmospheric" doesn't really work, but rather repetition toward something. There was a progression toward a climactic goal. Striborg is slightly lacking in this (though not totally), though you can definitely do worse amidst the countless hordes of the last little while than picking up Spiritual Catharsis. I'd start with that one personally, as its a little more developed than the debut. Decide from there.

Striborg has the Xasthur disease.
