It seems I'm one of the only people in existence that prefers The Scarecrow, so let's see...

The Metal Opera.

Easssy, Metal Opera all the way.

I do like The Scarecrow, but it doesn't even come close.

There's just nothing that really sets The Metal Opera apart from any of the other thousands of power metal bands out there in my opinion. Except for the fact that it's got Tobias Sammet AND Michael Kiske. But then again, so does The Scarecrow.

The Metal Opera of course, it's ten thousand times better. It's in the top ten of Power Metal releases of all time.

It's got some killer songs, but all in all I agree with this. Although I don't think the Scarecrow does any better. Sammett is an overrated songwriter, and Avantasia just seems like a huge waste of great names. Someone like Holopainen, Kakko or DeFeis would come up with a much better product.

Defeis maybe, but Kakko? The only good thing Sonata Arctica has done it's Ecliptica, while Edguy has several good albums.

Bullshit. On a power metal level, Ecliptica, Silence and Winterheart's Guild are amazing. Reckoning Night and Unia are somewhat different, but IMO still fantastic. Kakko is a much better songwriter, lyricist and singer than Sammett.

Ecliptica and Silence are sloppy but very fun... The last three nothing amazing. Not at all.

The voice of reason. And Kakko a better vocalist, NEVER!

What to do you mean by sloppy?

Mostly the vocals and the songwriting.

That would be the last criticism I'd expect for those albums.

Maybe not Silence. I'd agree with you there. But Ecliptica very much in my opinion at least

For some reason, I never really liked Silence. I love Ecliptica, though. I don't know how it's "sloppy."

I love Silence, Ecliptica, and Winterheart's Guild. I think RN, is ok at best, and Unia is pure shit. Overall though, awesome band.

Back on topic. Didn't you say you were 16 Afro? What did you hear first, b/c this is a defining power metal series. The elitists will disagree, but I feel The Metal Opera showed us what modern power metal is supposed to sounds like. It was released in a time when power metal was running rampant, and was obviously set above the rest b/c of it's brilliance. The Scarecrow is poop on a stick IMO.

Not heard The Scarecrow fully yet, but MO1 is a brilliant album, almost perfect songwriting, although some of the more dramatic voices are a bit silly. Still, it's Power Metal, silliness is part of the fun.

I don't give a shit, when I listen to power metal I'm not looking for someone to reinvent the wheel. The Metal Operas are indeed power metal and they do indeed sound like other power metal bands out there, but the big difference (and the one that IMO truly matters) is the songwriting and melodies, overall catchiness and asskicking if you will. The 2 Metal Operas for me stand damn near the top of the entire genre. The Scarecrow has Lost In Space and Carry Me Over and a few other turd nuggets wasting my time on it. However I do like enough of the Scarecrow to own it and pull it out once in awhile for a listen.

Maybe I should do the same. I haven't listened to it since it came out. It took me two years to change my mind about Rocket Ride, but I like in now, so... ya never know!

Do iiiiit. Shelter From The Rain, Twisted Mind, The Scarecrow, The Toy Master, Devil In The Belfry and Another Angel Down are all awesome songs, and 6 out of 11 songs being awesome isn't so bad. The rest IMO is ok to outright crap.
