Someone else and I have decided that this is a new genre describing bands who are all about complex/weird/sexy-as-fuck prog riffs/songs/melodies, are (primarily) instrumental, and since they're all about riffs, do not have much soloing. Examples include Indukti, Trephine, East of the Wall, Canvas Solaris, Zebulon Pike, Das War, Electro Quarterstaff, and A((Wake)).

Discuss this beautiful genre.

It's not specifically the less solos, but it's more the thought process of "OK how are we going to make this entertaining without using a guitar solo?"

I didn't realize guitar solos were a prog requirement.

It's people like you that invented terms like grunge and nu-metal. Cut it out.

But those terms make sense.

Well they're nearly universal in both prog and metal. And I also didn't say that they were a requirement o.O

It never was. Soft Machine or Van der Graaft Generator had no lead guitar.

I don't get where the "fakeness" comes from. Just the lack of soloing?

Because it's related to prog metal but different in important ways.

It's not really more progressive, just focused on different things.

It should be 'Riff-Progressive Metal' then. But really, who cares if there's a solo or not?
