Oh fuck, here comes the "Coheed & Cambria isn't emo" argument...

They're a lot more emo than prog.

I've heard all the C&C albums except for No World... and I hate them all except for Good Apollo, there are too many poppy/emo moments. But Good Apollo rules, can anyone here actually say they heard Welcome Home and they hate it?

You'd probably like No World For Tomorrow, it has hardly any pop moments and is easily the heaviest of all C&C albums. Though the progressive influence has all but disappeared on this one...

As I've said to a thousand other people that have made simliar claims, if you think they're emo, then you obviously have no idea what "Emo" is.
Then again, I havn't listened to any emo in YEARS and I have no bloody idea of what is considered emo nowadays. So maybe I'm not fully justified to say that.

Man, I've been listening to emo since the thing started and, though I'm not into that music anymore, I can still hear a band that is rooted in emo and C&C are.

Their first album has much emo influence for sure, but I wouldn't call it an "Emo" album. But newer C&C is more hard rock than anything, and any emo influence that was once with the band is gone.
The only emo I ever hear is the crap my girl listens to on a regular basis. We share bands with each other alot, she likes some of my metal bands and I... Tolerate some of her emo bands. But nothing she listens to sounds anything like C&C to me.

So you're talking about "emo" that is, in fact, the commercial crap nowadays sold as emo and has close to nothing to do with was emo originally was. It thus makes sense that you cannot detect the emo-ness in C&C. I assure you it's still there.

Yeah, that basically sums it up.
Still, I think the newest C&C album has little or no emo moments at all.

And I still think you're wrong because you only view emo through the wrong bands. Anyway, that doesn't really matter as long as we both obviously enjoy the band.

That's true. Like I said, I don't really know what qualifies as "Emo" anymore outside of the mainstream. Ha.

Can someone with listening experience in the "genre" tell me what emo actually is? It seems to me like its more a lifestyle thing than a type of music, but hey what do I know.

It's funny you mention that, because I've seen alot of emo kids put something like "Emo is a music style, not a lifestyle!" On their Myspace's.

I get a big kick out of bashing the mallcore kids. XD

Alternative Hard Rock with progressive influences.

But perhaps I don't think it's emo because I hate all emo related and I like this band a lot :)

Well I saw something in the forum last week that complained about genre names being too detailed. *shrugs* I think I should make the genre descriptions as detailed as possible now just to piss them off.

I still don't know why I shouldn't call them Progressive Rock. Sure, No World For Tomorrow isn't, but Second Stage and this one have a lot of Prog on them. You can say that I don't know anything about "real progressive" or what-the-fuck-ever, but I still don't see why I shouldn't.

This band is absolutely as Lucifer stated: rooted in emo and pop rock. Just because their lyrics are tinged with science fiction and the comic book, bored-in-English-class notebook scribblings of a kid who was a loser in high school and some scattered drum patterns here and there don't make this Prog. If Fall Out Boy had the same sound and started writing about intergalactic space travel, they'd still be fucking pop rock.

I think it's more of the fans of this band fighting tooth and nail to categorize it into something legitimate.

You lost me when you compared them to Fall Out Boy. From what I've heard, they sound nothing alike, and that comment is typical uninformed C&C hatred fare.

I love how this could apply to Rush.

Yes. And the main progressive influence in C&C is Rush.
